What's the rest of your system consist of?

The w7's need competent midbass drivers and installation techniques.

 

i have a W7 running it from a pdx 1000.1. oem radio connected with a RF 3sixty.1. My gain was set with a multimeter to 54.7V and crossover is @ 63hz. My Front components are boston pro 60 power by a pdx 150.4.

The bass does not sound to clean, i believe it sound muddy compare to the tc sound i use to have and the alpine type R i used to have. Yes, it does sound louder than my type r but not really cleaner.

The box was custom made for a type R/X but giving the spec it does meet the requirement of w jl w7. 2 cubic after net porter tune to 30hz. I can say that i have another box made to jl w7 spec (smaller than mine) and my box the w7 sounds MUCH better.

Any idea why my system is not sounding all that great.

I ran a 12w7 for a few years... loved it. VERY clean and accurate subwoofer. I was running it with a JL 1000/1. I agree with the comment stated above... You definately need some strong quality midbass drivers to compliment it.

 

If you don't like the sound, I suggest figuring out what's wrong with the enclosure or installation. You're not going to find much that's cleaner than a W7 in the proper enclosure and especially not at that price point.

Dual JL w6v2's?

 

I tried Alpine Type R 12", than Jl 12W7, than Morel Ultimo 12" and finally IDQ 2x10". Sometime I wish I had my JL 12W7 back. It can hit the low bass hard, clean and loud effortlessly.
Have you consider trying a sealed box (1.6 - 2.0 cubic feet)?
Sealed box is alots easier to get it sound right, but it woudn't sound as loud as ported.

 

so what are you gonna do with the jl?

All about your INSTALL. If that is poor all will be poor. For someone to say JL sounds bad, well you know your doing something wrong! Yes the W7 is more geared to SPL and if you want cleaner/ ultimate SQ from them, the W6 variant will give you that.
