Trying to decide which of the mainstream brands (Pioneer,JVC,Kenwood,Sony, etc..) has the most decent sounding drivers for my son's car. He's a centennial and like much of his peers, doesn't really know the meaning of clear sounding music. Just using the head unit power from a Pioneer DMH-241EX. It's going in a 2009 Subaru Impreza. Thanks for any help.

JBL GX series if you don't want to spend much money. You can sometimes find refurbished component sets for a few more bucks over your budget on eBay Tonality of that series is decent..

I second JBL or Infinty as a good bang for the buck. Get the 3 ohm ones if you have the option which will draw a few more watts from the headunit.. although i wouldnt worry much about it if the 4 ohm ones are at the price point you want.. just thought i would mention it if you have the option.

Thanks for the advice @Bayboy & @cman. I spied a pair of Alpine SXE-1726s for a rock bottom price. How do those compare to the Harmon/Kardon brands?
I've owned those before... They will make noise.. but are pretty low quality... for the retail price im not sure much will sound better considering they are what, like $30?

But if you find a good on sale deal.. i think you can beat it.. here are some $50 kenwoods on sale for $33

That Kenwood pair looks suspiciously identical to this JVC set. Very similar...I think they are manufactured simultaneously on the same assembly line.

Same company! JVC Kenwood corporation, LOL - Just like JBL and infinity they have similar or complete cloned products under either infinity or JBL brands..

I know CDT Audio doesn't get a lot of praise on this forum but this coaxial set is excellent for the price point. I know its a little more than $50 but the value is there within the performance. I have a used set I could probably sell for $75 shipped if you are interested.

Have you considered parts express?

I will assume that the vehicle has 4 speaker locations.... front and rear doors. So, grab some Goldwoods for the front doors, some Pyramids for the rear doors, and a pair each of the Dayton tweeters.

I don't think that I'd waste my money on ANY coaxial under $100. Any of the above tweeters should get a 6.8uf bass blocker capacitor. Woofers can roll off naturally and run full range.

And, you'll need 4 of these(1 for each tweeter)

Thanks for all the input you guys.... As luck would have it, I totally forgot that I have an old set of Hifonics ZXi6.5c components (circa 2011) in my attic from a previous install in my ex-wifes totaled car when we were married, I think I'll just end up amping those with a old school 4 channel Pioneer GM-X354 that is collecting dust too. This way I'm returning what's technically hers to our son anyway! Lol! It's more work than I initially wanted to do by just dropping in coaxials, but whatever....you know. The external crossovers are really goofy looking and bulky. It's my son's first car and I'd like to make it so that he holds onto it for a while.
