and moved amps around too....mids are getting around 90 a piece...tweets are getting around 60 a piece...and the xls's...are getting 150 watts at 4 ohm....so around 75 or so....

first thing i noticed....much less efficient than the mb quart 8's i had in there before....and they are getting roughly the same power...had to up my crossover point to get more "punch"...whereas the quarts had that with the crossover point where it was....

when i raised the crossover point....i noticed i need to add some screws to my door panel and lock that sucker down tight :)

so right now....kinda disappointed :( but it's time for a shower and some pizza....maybe get the second one in tomorrow....

i was happy with the sound of my Seas L18RNX with 40 watts @ 8-ohms at moderate levels but when i bridge my amp to 150 @ 8-ohms, it was like night and day with the dynamics!

maybe get more power..?

10K2HVN, are you serious about the added benefits of dynamics? Hrm. Npdang always tells us that speakers are sufficient at around 40-50watts (8ohms). If what you say is true, I'm going to bridge my arc audio and give my CA18RNX around 100watts!

Hrm. I wonder if briding will degrade the sound quality.

Then I'm going to have to whip out a wimpy amp to power my sub!

i'm thinking more power might be the key....

i could run these as subs as well....from like 100hz on down...

and bridge my amp...so each one will get 300 watts...but i can tone the gains down considerably....

but i kinda want stereo "subs"....

thoughts???

I would suggest putting a dmm over the speakers and measuring ac voltage. The power output from your amp maybe considerably lower than you'd expect, especially if your gains aren't set high.

Also, what songs are you using? Some songs just "hit" much harder than others. I usually use some old Alice DJ or Paul Van **** they have alot of midbass.

Is your door full sealed? Can you measure the frequency response?

The Peerless are very capable drivers, don't give up just yet! I know for a fact they can pound like no other.

definitely dont give up!

just try some more power and see if you can hear a difference...

im probably not using the whole 150 on my L18's but the headroom sure is nice..

i cranked the gain on the side i got installed last night....output improved....a little bit....but i had to get the gain up pretty high which i don't like doing :(

was using dire straits brother's in arms disc for testing....mainly track 8...

door is fully sealed...and deadened...

might stick a dmm on it tonite....

but i'm going to order more power :)

Went out with my friend last night and heard his XLS 8" again. Those things just pound... I always get compliments on my midbass but they were not even on the same level as the XLS 8" :)

As for power... alot of times just to eke out 40 watts of continuous power from your amp you need a good 150watt capable amp.

Try using the drivers without a highpass? Just back off the volume if they start to complain too loudly. Every vehicle is so different that it's hard to help someone tune over the internet because you're really just guessing at the problem.

Just looking at the displacement and motor you should be getting quite a good deal more headroom and dynamics...

got the other one in today....and need to sell some stuff so i can get the amp i want....so i'll have about 120 watts at 8 ohms on them....should pound a lot harder then :)

now that both of them are in....they are kicking some ass....but i still have to tame my mids and tweets down to match them....

so far i'm very happy with these suckers....SQ is very nice....a couple of bass guitar passages and giving me some real buzz in my door panels....so i still have to do some work there....

probably be making a "grill" sometime this week....need to have my mom do some sewing though :)

still need to fiddle with some crossover points....but listening to dire straits brothers in arms tonite while driving home in the rain was bliss :)

I got my XLS 8" in today... I have to let everyone know that these are more of a 9" driver... they were physically bigger than the OZ 200L they are replacing. Needless to say the factory 6x9 hole in my Ram's door is now round. Freaking Peerless uses a basket that does not taper to the magnet like other drivers use.

Now that I am done complaining...

I did not have much time to listen, I will in the morning... but something was noticeable when I turned them on... the output comming out of the doors was noticeable immediately... I can't wait to tune because it is so much that it is off balance with the rest of the system...

I have them running off Alpine f345 bridge rear channels... rated @ about 300watts @ 4ohm should be around 150watts 8ohm.

I'll post tomorrow more in depth on how they sound in my truck...

Today I got a chance to listen my Peerless XLS 8" a bit further.

Yesterday after listening to them for a bit I noticed quite a difference in output vs. the OZ 200L they replaced. So much output I felt the system was off balance & some tuning was in order.

With the OZ 200L i had to boost the upper midbass quite a bit around 160hz (+ 3db to be exact... I know, I know... to me that is alot). The Peerless definitely do not need the boost, so needless to say the EQ @ 160 is now flat.

They are running off the bridge rear channels of 2 Alpine F345, so they are getting about 150watts @ 8ohms.

Overall, they are definitely an upgrade over the OZ 200L. What I am most pleased with is the difference in initial impact of kick drums. It definitely packs some authority with the Peerless.

Tonally the OZ were not bad at all, heck I got plenty of complements from SQ judges, but the Peerless are definitely a bit more accurate & balanced. By balance I mean the Peerless upper midbass is not lacking like the OZ were, thus it is quite nice to listen to them play (40hz - 170hz) with equal effort...

My referrence midbass driver or rather favorite is the DLS IR8, so I hope to soon climb aboard a couple of DLS shod vehicles I know of, with some ref material to see how my 8"xls stack up... ;)

I also, replaced my OZ CS-130 with some Dayton drivers so if interested & will post over in the reviews section...

nice review man!!

I too once had the Ir8's and really liked them

im going to try a pair and see if I like them

havent decided what to use for midrange yet as I like the mids I have now

but I dont think I can fit a 8" (well 9" after looking at the overall diameter od the XLS--whoa) and 7" in my doors lol
