Hi,

I just did a full upgrade on my 2004 Ford Expedition. Here is what I have:

Kenwood dnx 9990HD
JL 900/5 bridged to run the rear speakers and sub
JL 600/4 bridged to run the front speakers
Hertz HSK 165XL components front
Hertz ESX 570 Coaxial speakers rear
JL 10w6v2 sub in the rear with custom box hidden
sound deadening in all four doors and rear deck lid

The concern I have is that I want to make sure that the gains are set correctly so that I get the best sound quality without harming the speakers. I had the installer set the tweeters at -2dB. He basically told me his method of setting gain was to turn up the HU to 75% and then bring the gains up in the amps until they distort.

I have heard a lot of different methods on how to set the gain here and understand a little. There are many techniques and JL recommends using a voltmeter while other say oscilloscope and others say use your ear.

Do you have any recommendations or suggestions? I would appreciate it. Thanks!
