Help me find the right amplifier

673 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  DeLander
Hey guys I am new here just passed my drivers license and I need help picking my sound system. I bought my first car and one of my parents bought me this subwoofer box - auna Boomcase X8 Passive Car Subwoofer

I have tried looking for it myself and I been googleing the past week and stil don't fully understand what I need.

The subs are dual coil and wired in series and final impedance is 4ohm

I would love it if you guys would list what I need to look at for this specific box.

I know the amp needs to be for 600W and 4ohms but don't know how channels work on amps and how bridging works

Congratulations on your license. One good starting point for this discussion is budget. If I were to choose an amp for you, cost would be my first question, especially with a first time amp purchase. To be honest, you might find a far greater deal by browsing some of the classified ads here and talking to some reputable forum members.

Another approach is to go with Crutchfield, where you can get pretty good customer service and that is a good thing for a first time installer.

Since we are talking subwoofers, you will be fine to go with a monoblock amplifier to drive only the subs. However, if you want to throw power to other speakers in your car, then maybe you go with a multichannel amp. You would not want to have booming subs and no power to your front speakers.

I checked Crutchfield and it looks like you can get plenty of choices for under $300 for approximately 300w RMS x 1 channel at 4 ohms. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-AKe9wdLRbRp/g_120/All-Car-Amplifiers.html#&nvpair=AG_Type|FFMono_Subwoofer&price=90-300

Tell us more so we can help you ....oh and what stereo (head unit) will you be using?

I guess budget would be the first question...... but heres one to get your mouth watering awhile Soundstream AR1.4500D Monoblock 4500 Watts Class D Amplifier
Welcome!

First of all, I would mirror ARCuhTECH's excellent advice.

And I'll only add that, according to:

...it seems you'll need 300 watts RMS (not 600).

For that, you can't go wrong with a R500X1D (one channel, rated at 300 watts RMS at 4 ohms / 500 watts RMS at 2 ohms):

That looks like an awesome amp for the money! It can deliver gobs more power than the R500X1D, it's 1-ohm stable, and it's got a subsonic filter (in case the OP decides to go ported down the road)!

It is. I run one of those to my Alpine Type S 15 and it’s brother, the P900.4 to my midbasses. Both good amps for the $ and produce good power.
