My amp decided to quit on me a few weeks ago while in the middle of a song. Have been busy so I just disconnected it and now Im trying to figure out what went wrong.
The amp is a MTX TA5601 mono amp. I had it powering a sub at 3ohm. It has a min of 2. Volume wasnt maxed out and the none of the settings on the amp were cranked up either. The sub still works just fine. The lighting effects on the amp still come on. Neither the thermal LED, or the short indicator LED come on. None of the fuses are blown. What is the deal?
Not at all trying to thread Jack here, but having a very similar problem with a Completely different amp. Amp just shuts off, Power Light Off and Protect Light never comes on, when listening to music at any Volume. Some times it will do it once a day, others it will be For Weeks that it won't happen.
First I thought it was my Ground. So I re-grounded it to a *better* chassis location (screwed right into my Rear Wheel Well) and it was noticeably Louder, by at least 25%! And it was totally fine for about 3 weeks, then yesterday while doing some tuning, amp popped off. Luckily this time i had my head in my trunk right next to my amp cause I was adjusting gains and such and heard it when it happened. It sounded like a popping sound came from the amp, no fuses blown, no smoke, I was right next to my new ground and it didn't seem to spark or anything. Protect Light on the Amp didn't come on but the Power light was out, just like Before!
But the weirdest part is the HiFonics logo still lights up, the blue lights on the side still light up and so do the lights by the speaker/power connectors. So it's getting power but just not playing the sub?!
I don't know what else to check. RCA's fine, fuses fine, power wire fine, remote fine. I am totally stumped and it sounds like the op and I are paddling down the same river!
Any additional trouble shooting questions!
BTW the amp is Brand spanking new, only have had it playing for about 4 months (and this originally started about 2 months ago) and its a HiFonics 1100.1 D, not a MTX like the op has.
