Hi all, I'm new here.

I'm leaving in 2 days for a long trip in my 2005 Kia Spectra5 (hatchback version of the Spectra). It has the regular stock radio that comes on the car originally. I want to get my iPad's audio to come through the stereo. FM transmitters aren't cutting it any more. Is there any special kit that can be installed, any changing of wiring, or any ideas at all, to get the iPad's audio into the stock radio without replacing the entire head unit and doing a dash kit... I don't have a whole lot of time to do a full install.

I know enough about car stereo's to make me dangerous, but just don't have the time or energy to gut the dash in the next couple days. I don't mind if it is as simple as a 3.5mm to RCA or splicing some cables to get it done. It doesn't necessarily have to be an iPod kit, or Bluetooth... just any way to get the audio.

Any quick ideas?

Thanks a bunch for any input.

realize, the guy in the video is pretty much an idiot. but whatever.

so basically the short answer for you is most likely NO, considering you are asking - because it is usually a straightforward solution with a male-to-male 1\8" stereo jack.

unless your car has an AUX INPUT - and it may - that is the only way you are going to be able to quickly input any audio into the system. some cars have hacks - or weird harnesses that allow this. but in general, since you are trying to do this the minimalistic way - unless there is an AUX port, i would say no.

ok, so after doing a bit of research, there might be an aux input.

cool beans. so you could do a mod like this guy if you did an aftermarket stereo to utilize it.

so some information is needed.

A: does your car have an AUX input port on its dash\glove box\center console anywhere?
B: does the ipad have a headphone jack at all?
C: are you looking for a permanent type deal for your ipad in the car, or just a way to listen to music?

the ipad has a headphone jack. it can be connected to an AUX... with the limitations of an AUX connection though.

looks like the OP doesnt have an AUX capable radio... in that case no choice but to go the FM transmitter route.

OP:
ive heard that some stock radios can get AUX through some sort of adapter. maybe you can call kia if that is possible. AUX through the cd changer port if you have one.

Limitations are moot. If it works it works lol.

I would look to see if your car has a stock amplifier first. If it does you may be able to patch something in or maybe find an input harness like the guy just suggested.

OK, it looks like dman has posted something up. But, when I first started reading this I said to myself...you have got to be kidding me! iPod accessories are EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't own an ipod or ipad myself (well I got one for my daughter) but I try to keep up as mush as possible on what is going on in the car audio industry. I did not have an idea of what exact model number of the product that is available to make this work but I do remember reading that there were OEM to ipod solutions out there. It seems most of the newer cars have an aux input but many cars from a year to a few years ago don't have and input. So the only was to integrate an ipod or satellite radio was to use an adapter that tied into the FM antenna jack. These type solutions tend to be cleaner than the wireless transmitter type. However, the only way to get the best possible signal is to just get an aftermarket deck with an aux input.

Anyway, I guess the OP is on the road now. I am suprised he has not come across solutions like the PAC audio solution. I would think this stuff would be available at BEST BUY and Radio Shack here in 2011....or am I off track? Like I said...I don't have an ipod but I though OEM integration solutions were readily available??

Oh, let me Google that for you!
iPod Adapters for Factory Decks | Best Buy

BEST BUY has several integrated iPod for OEM deck adapters! This was not a dumb question at all by the OP but a search at his local BEST BUY or Car Audio shop would have got him the results needed in the 2 day timeframe....I'm just sayin'
