I was able to find a sub and i ended u going with a jbl gto804 thats 4ohms, same as the speakers, I added a list of what I have now for specs on them and the hu is a sony mex 5000bt.

Kicker 40CS654 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com

Kicker 40CS6934 6"x9" 3-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com

JBL GTO804 Grand Touring Series 8" 4-ohm subwoofer at Crutchfield.com

Now, I honestly don't know what im looking for when it comes to amps. I need something small in footprint as all this is going into a classic vw beetle and I have very limited space. Im not looking to brake my windows, I just want to add more power so I can get a nice sound system, I guessso ething better than a mid luxury car stereo system.

I found a few that I believe is what I need but im not sure of that and im not sure if they will move the speakers and sub I already have.

Soundstream Picasso Nano PN5.640D Compact 5-channel car amplifier — 60 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms + 350 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com

GT5-2500 - Gothic - Amplifiers - Products

Pioneer GM-D8604 4-channel car amplifier — 100 watts RMS x 4 at Crutchfield.com

I will appreciate any help I can get as I would like to order an amp asap.

Thanks in advance.

Looking into the 15 threads that ongoing about this may help too... Not knocking you, but people need to start using the search button. Having ten threads of the same topic isn't much help to anyone. All the info and suggestions are scattered all over the place......

Budget is about $130, can push a bit more but would like to keep it as low as possible and a small footprint. This is a very small car and right now the sound system sounds, good imo but I want a bit more plus the amp that is not installed yet.

Is that pioneer not enought, I just want a bit more than I have a d im not looking to get attention from others. If u guys yhink the pioneer is fine ill go with yhat one. I know is 4 channel but I was told I can hook up front speakers in 1 channel, rear speakers in a second channel and the sub in the 2 other channels. I would be fine that way if it can be done.

The reason I ask for help is because I dont know what to look for with speakers, subs, amp. I tried doing a search but I basically need someone to tell me what I need to get as I cant understand how everything works (2ohms, 4ohms, rms, watts etc...) I read a few sites but for some reson I can't undestand the technical info.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but like I said, I just need someone to direct me the r7ght way.

I can find those for about $130. Thone that I'm posting are for specs basically.
understood.

if you hook up the speakers the way you mentioned to a 4 channel amp you are not going to have stereo sound. you will have your front speakers only getting left signal and your rear getting right.

the other way is to use front channels of amp to run all speakers which would put you at a 2ohm stereo load and you would not be able to have much control over them.

saying all that to say you need a 5 channel amp :)

Got it, when u say control over them, are u refering to adjusting the sound balance/fade only?
If is that I wouldn't have any problem as I never adjust them. I will be getting an equallizer to adjust the rest but like I said I never adjust balance/fade.

In that case, could I go 4 channels?
If not I guess I would have to go 5.

Thanks for helping btw :)

If you only use one set of rcas to amp then run 2 sets of speakers you will only have control over balance. It will be fading from front to back that you will give up.

Also, make sure the amp you buy is 2ohm stereo capable.

I would still go with a 5 channel amp if the price is the same just to give you more flexibility(you will want it later when you want to upgrade speakers :D) and it will be easier for the amp running at 4ohm than 2ohm.

I dono think I would be upgrading for a long time. I'm 41 and this is the first time I put a new sound system on one of my cars. I have a 99 explorer and I haven't upgrade anything. I usually buy car and leave them stock. I'm installing a sounsound system on this on as it needed new speakers and a new hu and since one of my sports car came with a stereo system with subs and amps I decided to do ssomething better than stock as this will be my dally for now.

So if I go 4 channel, do u think this one would work http://www.crutchfield.com/mobile/Product/Item/Highlights.aspx?i=130GMD8604&tp=115 if it does, I'll just go with this. Don't want to spend like $65 if I don't have to.

If you go with the 4 channel that pioneer will be fine for the price you can get it for.

I think the ppi would be my choice of the 5 channels because it's more powerful.

It should sound way better than the stock system I have right if I go with the pioneer?
I know the best option is the other one but I want to make sure the pioneer would be a noticiable improvement over stock anyway.

If I can swing the extra for the PPI I would go that way, but want to have another option over my plate.

I just realized u mentioned the pioneer 4 channel. But I was referring if I go with 5 channel, between the 2 options I posted, sound stream or ppi, both are 5 channels but the sound stream is smaller in size. Probably I'll go with 5 channel so that's what I'm asking between those 2.

I guess both work for my application but wish one is better?

I always go with more power when possible.

Soundstream 60x4 and 200x1

PPI 70x4 and 270x1

You won't notice 10 watts per channel on main channels and I doubt You would notice 70 watts on the sub you have. So it might not be a bad thing to save 30 bucks.

That's what I'm thinking. I want to go with ppi but the dimensions of soundstream are more appealing as is a small amp in size. I'm going to wait until tomorrow so I can measure spaces. If I'm able to accommodate the ppi I'll buy it.

Another question, should I be worry about overheating issues if I place any amp in the trunk?
Also, how much space should I have around/on top/bottom of the amp for cooling?

I might be able to place the ppi under the seat but im a bit worry of the overall space I would need to leave around the amp. I do have a perfect place for the smaller size amp (under the rear speaker deck which it would be perfect) but the ppi is big for that space.

Thanks.

Any place in the trunk will be fine. Also, these are not going to put out a lot of heat. I have a friend that has a PPI 4 channel like this under each seat with zero issues.

He only has maybe an inch around the the ends of the amps. As long as you don't toss it in a glove box you should be fine.
