There are several members here running horns, myself included. I just posted pics of mine on the last page of my build log:

http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum...w-install-pioneer-premier-single-cab-s10.html

I initially had mine paired with the 18Sound 6ND430, a 6.5/7" mid with a decent efficiency. I have since moved up to 8" drivers. I've had the B&C 8NDL51 for about a month, and am headed to So Cal in the morning to pick up a pair of JBL 2118H.

Either way you go, you'll probably want to look into pro audio drivers for midbass. What sub(s) will you be running? Typically with pro audio mids, you give up lower end extension for higher efficiency, so you'll probably end up crossing your sub(s) a little higher than you would when pairing subs to a normal car audio midbass.

As far as installation, make sure the horns are even laterally, and are aimed level and straight forward as opposed to angled.

Hi there,
I use ID CD1e v.3 in my girls car paired with X65.

The sound is full, focused image, never had that before. Maybe because it is my first true active setup.

I would suggest using the ID X69. Created to be paired with a 110dB 1w/1m horn.

Hope that helps,
Kelvin

sqguy/Mike... you forgot several important pieces to you question....

What kind of car?
what kind of budget?
what final results are you expecting?
who will handle the tuning & using what tools?

Mike made some great points about the general install of horns, however horns are VERY vehicle specific. 3 of my cars have them, so YES I am a fan... LOL

But you need to either have the midbasses as much on axis with the horns as possible OR have T/A-Processing available. it helps tuning tremendously. Also, I prefer a "super tweeter" myself, its kinda old school, but I like the extra height & shimmer of a nice soft dome, from about 15K up.

last thing, is the further away from the passengers seating position you can get the hor bodies the best. close in the bottom of your dash (carpet/felt covered fiberboard is fine since its not structural)... think touch the Compression Driver itself as far back & into the corners of the foot well as possible.... helps deepen the sound stage, widen the over all stage presence, & adds a little height.

give us some more details... there are likely people on here with the same car or have done the same car at some point.

If you have room, my Illusion Audio CH-1 horns are for sale. They sound awesome with a 7-8" midbass and need very little power.

go for it... you'll end up with the horns flush with the end/edge of the dash the BC's are a little on the deep side, if I remember correctly.

See if USD offers a mini-horn body, like ID does. that will help tremendously.

Do you find having to use tweeters up high on the dash to help out around 15kHz and up?

I have a set of ID's I plan on using on my next install and have read about the horns not going up that high on freq. There's not much music information that high, but extra tweeters may add sparkle.
