Helllo, everybody, I have a headache.

My system is ;

Alpine CDA-9887 + CHA S609, Kenwood KEC-600, Focal 165KRX2, SS rubicon 502 for tweeter, SS rubicon 1002 for woofer, SS rubicon 702 for Alpine SWR-1243D

I just got a Alpine CDA-7949 in hand and would like to use it at the same time with the Alpine 9887 because I have a lot of music in my iphone. Both HU have a aux in so that there will be no difficult to run them together.

But I would like to seek for advice whether I should place the 7949 before the 9887 or after the 9887. If I put it before 9887, please tell me is it possible that the sound quality of 7949 will be downgrade by 9887.

Thanks.

you are gonna run 2 HUs?

I wouldnt dasiy chain them together. put a switch in the dash that will turn one off and the other on (and visa-versa)

do you have a DSP or EQ or something that can select inputs? if so them you can switch the input there, otherwise have your dash switch turn some relays on and off to change source input as well.

I'm guessing you want to do this to have the modern features the 9887 has"ipod hook up and Bluetooth" but the the 7949 you want the cd transport and optical out?

As you currently have no way to use the optical out on the 7949 I really can't imagine the sound quality is that superior to justify the change from a 9887 to the 7949 only some of the time. You either need to sacrifice Bluetooth and iPod control or keep the 9887 and save the 7949 for a different install, or sell it.

Thanks for the replies, all of them are from Alpine user.

Currently, I running active by using Kenwood KEC-600, this is my third pieces and it was brought BNIB few months ago.

Yes, the most easiest way to use that two HUs together is to use a switch to flip over. But what I'm thinking is almost the same as Brian said, add the modern features of 9887 to 7949, like iPod, Bluetooth, and T/A. I'm never consider to use the optical out of HU 7949 and CD changer 609 as I personally afraid that the sound would become 'cold'.

Maybe somebody will suggest me to add a H600/H701/h800 to grab the modern features, but still lack of iPod connection.

Now the question is if the modern processor, like H600/H701/H800 will downgrade the sound quality of 7949? If not, will CDA-9887 downgrade the sound quality of 7949 ? If yes, why ? Did the downgrade occur during the transportation of signal or by the 9887 headunit itself, or both ? Could anybody please help me?

Thank you.
