I'm at a loss. I have a pair of Seas H1212 paperweights that need to be replaced. I actually blew 3 - moving from 2500hz - 3500hz to finally 5000hz crossover. I'm driving them with 2 channels of a PG Xenon 200.4. My head unit is a 880PRS. Also, I never did get them to fit in the A-Pillars.

So, I need smaller tweeters that can handle the power. I was thinking I might get 4 Seas Neos and put 2 on each side. Not sure how to proceed. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jamie

It seems like perhaps you might have been clipping the tweets and that is a heck of alot of power for tweeters in general. You really have to be careful with that much on tap. Perhaps look for an 8ohm pair. Why do you need four tweeters? Do you plan on wiring them in series?

Yes, I was planning on wiring them together - series or parallel. I hadn't gotten that far, but the idea was to put half the power into each one. Also, I was thinking I could point them at slightly different angles.

The Neos seem to blow quite easily as well. I've heard good things about the Tang Band Ceramics.

Do you have a part number for the TB Ceramics. Would they handle the 200W or would I still need to do something else?
Thanks

I don't know off hand of a Tweeter that will handle 200 watts.
I think these will handle a lot more Power and the reviews look decent:

Parts-Express.com:Vifa XT25TG30-04 1" Dual Concentric Dome Tweeter | vifa tweeters vifa tweeter tweeters tweeter TRS sound plugs plug ic dome tweeter diaphragm

These Tweeters are small and sound great:

Scan-Speak Illuminator D2004/6020-00 tweeter from Madisound

There's a lot to chose from and the above is just a small sample; look around on the two links.

Yes, they should hand the power with proper gain setting and intelligent use of the loud knob.

Put a passive cap inline with the tweeter, sounds to me like you are getting unwanted bass frequencies, perhaps.

Morel tweets are extremely hard to blow so you might consider a pair of those. I know a guy who ran a pair of mdt29's fullrange a couple months by accident (still havn't figured out how he didn't know) and only blew one of them while the other is still fine. The xt25's are also great tweets but MUST be mounted on axis.

I like the Morel Supreme Tweeter. I'm not sure which version I heard, but it sure sounded good.

X2, could also be the amp doing it if you don't have a cap on them. You don't need that kind of power but if its in there it should work fine.

Thanks for all the comments. I guess noone thinks two tweeters on each side is a good idea.:( The Morels would handle the power, but at $400 a pair, Ill have to pass. The Vifas would need a little help. How would I size a resistor for that application? I don't think I'm getting any bass through the tweeters. I had the last one set at 5000hz with a 24db slope. And I doooooo like it loud.

The only time I like multiple tweeters is in a line array, and I don't see you doing that in a car today.

Multiple tweeters often mess with your imaging, unless you have precise time delay control, and crossover control. Wiring them together negates both of those so you are wasting your time.

Besides, most tweeters will melt your ears before they melt themselves, if everything is working nominally.

Put a high-pass cap inline with the tweeter at a value around 2k, and you'll probably find everything just fine.

A resistor would be the same thing as turning down the gain. Be careful of that loud stuff, one day you might be pissed because you can't hear for chit.

Remember the xover is before the amp, if the amp makes any DC it goes right to the tweeters. If the amp clips to DC it goes right to the tweeters. I have never run tweeters without a cap.
