Is anyone on here building or 3d printing enclosures for their 2.5 to 3.5" midranges?

I see alot of these small little midranges like the Brax ML3 recommending a little enclosure.. im not sure I really follow... if you have a high pass crossover I thought an enclosure was not necessary.. maybe i am missing something?

Are people making enclosures for their low QTS midrange drivers? Or just a baffle and setting the high pass crossover?

The only midranges I've been able to find with a high QTS are the Audiofrog GB25 and Audible Physics Avatar 3.. Other popular ones like the Scanspeak 10f, Dyn E430, Brax GL3, ML3... they all have a very low QTS...

I remember Andy saying that you should have an enclosure of some sort for the midrange but I would be interested to see what others have to say about this as I am going to start my build soon with the 3.5wm’s

Although these drivers should also work IB…

That's one I was also looking at.. the 3.5wm has a decent QTS 0.58

How close are you planning to crossover vs Fs and how well sealed is the baffle/area behind the baffle?

It would be an A pillar so the back of it would be seperated from the front by the pillar... the FS of the ones im looking at are about 100-120hz... i would be crossing at 250hz 24/db at the lowest

You can model a .707 enclosure vs IB, will most likely show zero difference from ~250hz on up especially bc signal will be 3db down @ crossover freq (if LR xo, so you shouldn't be remotely close to excursion limit etc.).

I just tried it in WinISD.. it made almost no difference until i wanted to go up to 99+ decibels and 250hz.. but if i did 300hz or stayed below 99 decibels it did not reach xmax.. then in a little enclosure it let me go up a few more decibels before reaching xmax... so it looks like it can help but maybe not so critical with a reasonible crossover and volume..
