I've been all over the map for sub driver considerations. Going back and forth between dual shallow 8's like SWS-8xi, dual CDT 6x9s, cutting the back door like crazy for a Alping type R 8 ... etc. Like I said, been all over the map.

I am ready to just do something!!!

last question before I jump in,

Considering I am buying a driver that the vendor says is IB compatible but is recommended for a small enclosure, which would be the best option.

Take the EarthQuake SWS-8xi, for example.
It states it can run free air, but also states that the recommended enclosure size is .2 cubic feet. If I created a shallow box I might be able to squeeze .30-.35 for two of these.

or

I could just build a show box overtop of the hole in the rear door that the stock 6.5s are installed into. This would let them move free air into the volume of the door.

Which would be the best way to go. A smaller than suggested sealed enclosure or a free air application?

This is the hole they will be going over

Oh, I love asking questions. Just get more issues/problems than answers :)

Pods won't work to well as I only have about 3.5" of clearance between this "tailgate/barn" door and the rear jump seats.

Let's say there is a way to dampen the hell out of that door. What would the answer to the question be?

If a manufacture says that a driver is 150watts rms, IB compatible, and states a recommended box specification, would you cut the 150 watts rms in half to run IB?

Of all the IB drives I have researched, none mention a recommended RMS for IB and a RMS for Boxed.

Ratings are done free air in many cases.

Thanks for the info. Very helpful. I'm actually going to setup a Windows VM on my Mac so I can run some of the modeling software.

Given my restraints, would you recommend a different driver for a subwoofer application.

Not trying to thump the neighbor hood, but some good low end for hip hop and rock. Can't go deeper than 3.5" mount depth, preferably much shallower.

Thanks very much for the help!

Gregerst22, you have been most helpful. About to start ordering stuff and will definitely keep you posted on this build.

I am thinking the Tang Band might be a little less abusive on the tailgate door causing less rattling, however not sure if it will get low like the CDT.

The first choice will be a set of the JLs that I am currently trying to get at a good price. If not, it will be either the CDTs or the Tang Bands. Going to get some of the SIs for the front doors.

Once that is done, now I will need to find a amp to run off the MS8 I got to power these things.

Thanks again for the help

Is there any other place to get specs on the SI TM65?

the site says dimensions are 8x8x4. Is that 8" in diameter?

Also, no power handling range?

And, since these are going in doors, would you put foam baffles around them to protect them?

gregest22,

Thanks for all of your help. Ordered everything. Couldn't believe how much all the siring and other accessories cost compared to the actual exciting equipment part .

You suggested the PPI Phantom 900.4. I was wondering what you thought about their other amps, such as the Atom series? Saw the overall dimensions of the A1000.4 and it is much smaller. I am running into some size constraints under the seats due to the MS8.

Not sure if the Atom can be ran in 3 channel mode, though.
