Buy a 3 way stereo crossover ($150 on ebay).

Buy a 6.1 or 7.1 receiver that actually accepts 6 separate inputs (subwoofer input doesn't count as 1 of the 6)

Plug the High R&L, Mid R&L, and Low R&L into the 6 channel inputs.

Run the 3 way active allowing me to test out different drivers. I'm getting the itch to build myself new Home Theater speakers for my living room as well as stereo speakers for my music room. Plus, I could do some auditioning for my car as well. There are too many good budget speakers out there that I want to try out.

Crazy idea?

There are a lot of people on the home audio boards running active 2 way setups with ht recievers. The most common you here about is the panasonic XR recievers(digital amp) with a behringer unit to run active. The XR is highly regarded, but doesn't handle lower imp loads very well.

Things change dramatically when you get in car though, and while it may give you a good place to start, there is no telling if it would be worth it.
