I'm curious if there is a way to increase the power supplied by a USB port on a head unit to charge a phone faster?

If the port is also used for communication, you are limited to 0.5A (at least for USB 2.0 spec). I'm sure you could get in there and tinker around with the wiring to physically enable more current flow, but it would be ill advised.

Yes I know, but I'd like to be able to still receive calls in the car. Might just have to deal with the trickle charging.

I have a P99 and it only outputs 500mA over USB. I'd be happy to get that to 1A.

I can't use the external power adaptor unless there is a way to rig the two together, but doesn't seem like there is anything that exists.
