As title states which on and why. Im planning on buying a pair of either when my tax return comes in. I am going to run ported and will be powering it with a jl audio 1200/1v3. I listen to primarily metal/hard rock and really enjoy clean articulate bass with lots of impact. If you can please explain the difference in sound between the two. thank you.

I am a fan of the w7. I have owned both the w6 line and the w7. I am currently running a 13w7 and have been for like a decade. I have not had any point in time that I would say that the 13w7 is not articulate. I play all genre of music and it does well in each situation that I put it in. Impact is not a concern IMO with the w7. It is very authoritive.

That said....

most people it seems on this forum are a fan of the w6v2 line more so than the w7 line. It may be a better bet for you to go with the 13w6v2. But if you are that concerned about articulate why not go sealed? Seems to me that will get you more to where you want to be.

anyways....personally, I vote 13w7 with a good midbass. For you, it seems like you might do well with the 13w6v2.

I have a 13W7 in a ported box that I am extremely happy with. I listen to a variety of music and the sub performs well with all. I cannot imagine that I will ever purchase any other sub.

What size enclosure do you have it in? I see mixed feeling all over the boards about using jl audios specs for an enclosure and many say to build your enclosure up to 50% larger than recommended.

Not sure a single 1200/1 will be sufficient to run the W7's properly...maybe a 1200/1 each. If you're limited to only using a single 1200/1 then the W6's will be the way to go.

And most 'perceived' impact comes from the midbass.

throw the t/s specs in winisd and see what it says, i bet it will be darn close to 50% over recommended specs.

Yeah I have also considered that I'm leaning toward the w6 as it is although a high output alternater and spare battery are on my list as well I really don't have anywhere to put another 1200/1. My midbass is pretty strong what I was talking about is feeling the bass in your chest.

Just did that. Your right on comes out at about 2.55ft3 per driver tuned to 27hz. Significant difference from what jl recommends.

I have used the W6 and the W7.
I have built ported and sealed boxes for both.

In the end, I am using a single sealed 13W7 on a 1200/1. The 13W7 uses everything the 1200/1 can deliver. 2 of these sub's on a single amp would be woefully underpowered.
It gets low with authority and has very sharp, hard hitting response. In the cab of my truck the 13W7 can make passengers feel like the air has been sucked out of their lungs. The W6 could not do that in my setup.
For me, ported on both subs was slighty louder, but I lost the accuracy and low end authority that I enjoy when running sealed.
I have used the W7 in an oversized sealed enclosure and in the JL spec enclosure, and I personally don't think The difference is worth losing the additional volume in the vehicle.

I also felt that the W6 handled above 50hz marginally better than the W7, but at a loss of volume and sub-30hz hit.

The W6 is smaller, uses less space, and can use a smaller amp, so it gives you more options.

Ultimately, I think the W7 is right for me. Audition both if you can though, because the mild differences might matter to your tastes.

I have a 13W7AE and i finally cured my craving for bass. I have it in a spec box(2.375ft3) and hooked to a 1000/1 amp. It absolutely pounds. Louder and deeper than most 15" subs on the market. I am considering changing my box to a 4th order bandpass though to try to get more output, and I'm also considering hooking up 2 1000/1 amps to it, but would only do so in a sealed box. You will not be disappointed with the W7, and you will only need one of them. And the amp you have would be perfect for one 13W7AE.

I used to have a 13w7 with HD 1200/1. That was an amazing combo that never left me wanting more. It pounds soooo hard and was extremely accurate. It can play any kind of music and so awesome. Just make sure to pair it up with some good mids and highs.

I sold it about a year ago and regret it big time. Best sub I've ever owned.
