who has helped me with my system. I'm sure the results have been greatly improved because of it.

Anyway, just so you know, I drive 'myself' crazy with my AADD and obsessive compulsiveness, too...... So it's easy to see why you 'normal' guys would react the way you do.

But I can see when my stay is no longer welcome.

Much thanks again,

Suite yourself, but you are over reacting...A LOT!

I answered your question earlier, I just hate to weed through BS when I want to know what the actual question is.

********, you'll be back tomorrow and you know it. :)

Look Chris, many of us have been doing this for long enough to tell you that it does get quite frustrating at times. You read what's possible, then try to create it. It doesn't work and you want to throw in the towel and say '**** it."

DIYMA is a virtual database of this type of stuff. Not many will just hand you what you want on a silver platter because 1) we've had to do it ourselves 2) no one has the time and patience to sit down and write a dissertation (well, except MiniVanMan or Rudeboy) 3) we might not CLEARLY understand what your asking.

So, having said that, don't give up. When you make threads....
1) make lists of your questions.

Or say "I was reading...

Something someone already asked about and was discussed
...and had these questions:
A)
B)
C)

It's a good idea to quote other questions from the past because it shows us you searched and need clarity.

Also, don't be afraid to bump old threads. I see nothing wrong with that. Some get all torqued out, but just ignore them. Maybe you can just say "bringing this back from the dead because_________".

I remember when I first started posting here I felt like SUCH an idiot. Seriously, I was VERY intimidated.

You're not leaving, you're just a little side-tracked. The forum is still good for some reasons, so don't pull the plug. Ignore the ******** and extract what you need. Don't get too caught up, either....because it's easy to.

I'm not sure what more there is to add to what FoxPro said. Chris- I for one personally enjoy your enthusiasm. Sure you make a lot of threads, but guess what? You're taking your past knowledge and experience regarding car audio and trying to implement it in your current situation, or see if that is even the correct way of thinking. To me this is nothing like the "what sub should I buy guyzzz???" threads that have littered Audio Discussion for the past 6 months or longer. You seem to have a genuine love for the hobby, and are trying to learn. That said, we've all been there, which like John said, why some here may make you work a little harder for your answers.

And as for you leaving???

My what a little soap opera we have. I guess it is a testiment to how seriously some take this hobby. I would hope we could lighten up a little. And I have to agree with Chris that the search function sucks. It is hard to find what you are looking for without being very generic. Then you get a million threads to wade through.

Then what happened? ;)

The search system works pretty well but using it effectively requires a skill set that most people don't have or need. You shouldn't have to study computer science to find an answer to your question.

We all get bent out of shape from time to time and it's a really good idea to remind ourselves that this is meant to be fun. Dramatic announcements usual mean we're taking things too seriously.

I think the SEARCH function here works great. You just have to know what you are looking for.

The hardest part for me, as a newb, is the jargon. I wish there was like a sticky or something with a basic list of terminology and jargon that would help me understand you guys a bit easier.

what worked/works for me is to mostly lurk. Take as much in as possible before you start getting involved.

This is the crux of the issue IMO. There's nothing wrong with asking a question when you don't know what terms to search. However, it sounds pretty lame to say, "the search sucks so I didn't bother trying," because if you know what to search for, it's actually pretty awesome.

Don't let it get to you Chris. Not sure of your age but you talk of being in this hobby for a long time. I am in the same boat. Hell, I will be 46(wow, is that possible!) in a few weeks and have been spending money on systems since 79. That being said, most of what is talked about here is all new to me. I, for one, applaud you for being able to jump right in and ask any question you have. Some of them and the answers in them have helped me. I am sure you will shake this off and be back.

This is what I still do for the most part. However, it didn't take long to find some members that really don't mind answering your questions. After doing so, I began using PM's a LOT! :D I actually have far more PM's than post count. Some of you will know that to be true :D :D

Peace, ;)

I knew you had to have ADD or something!

Whenever I read your posts I hear some guy talking really really fast and really excited and changing topics constantly.

Not picking, just glad I know why now :)

That's the DIYMA tradition and what most of us did when we first got here.
I agree that experimenting is a huge part of this, but what's the point in having a forum where every member has to figure everything out the hard way.

I thought the whole point of this place was to provide a tool so that not everyone has to learn everything the hard way.

I'm not trying to criticize anybody, but I think some of the responses Chris got were pretty ****ed up. If you want to spend 5 minutes telling someone that they're an idiot, you should find better things to do with your time.

I think Chris has overreacted a bit, but I also think some of you could have been much more helpful and respectful with your contributions to his threads. If you really thought his questions were that dumb, you shouldn't have responded. He's excited to learn and that's a good thing that we should be encouraging.

I apologize for hijacking this thread. Furthermore I apologize for my misstatement concerning the search function. I should have stated that I get frustrated by the search function. But not because there is anything inherently wrong with said search function. Only because I am such a dumbass I don’t know exactly what to search for much of the time.

If the forum has helped improve your system :D

If you're going to be thin skinned about trial and error :(

I recently asked for some input at one of our meets and I didn't like the feedback; he was right and I was hurt. I have since addressed the issues and there are others that are still pissed off about the gentleman's critique.

Okay my turn.

I am, like Fish Chris, a newbie here, but not a newbie to forums, the rules of the road, general means of "getting along." etc. I know we all reach our thresholds, and sometimes those boundaries are not obvious to others until the wall is hit.

I can say the following (note the list format...lol).

1. I tend to agree with most people both here and your tweeter thread. Is that possible? Well yes ..slightly. Meaning, everyone has a point, even you Chris.

2. If people are lazy readers and skip your posts because of the length, I can PROMISE you they will never read mine. In fact I am pretty certain people do skip mine because I have more wind than an environmental turbine! I prefer to call it my writing style....and yes I mean that seriously. You will never satisfy everyone. Some people like lists, others want one sentence posts, still others want you to search to hell and back and of course some want you to bump a 1972 thread about air cooled VW's.

Be yourself!

3. I admit to rambling...and if I catch myself doing it, I will often highlight my own questions in lists, make a point in color, or emphasize it with boldness. It does help, though I am sure some say it too is annoying. I think it helps the lazy reader in us all. That is how I chose the format for my daily logs in my build thread.

4. Sometimes, I even take the time to focus on placing the question in the beginning of my posts. Even in face to face conversations, I prefer, when asking someone a question, that they get right to the point first, then bedraggle the conversation to whatever depths they want (that way I can tune out at anytime and still get the meat).

5. Always add pics. Well....that is human nature right...the more pics we get the more we stick around. Its all about MARKETING yourself Fish Chris! I am only partially serious about this one..

6. I do like your style...you ARE passionate and emotional. Me too. Remember...not everyone is unless they are bashing you. LOL

7. Finally.....I personally like reading your posts. You are quite funny and frankly honest perhaps to a fault. I prefer that you stick around. Our builds are similar and I have learned a lot from you even though we have both been absent from car audio for years.

Oh and one more thing....in my install thread....check out the number of views and number of replies. It is hilarious....mainly because there are only a few people following it and that means most views are ME...posting, proofreading ( I hate it when people cannot try to hit at least 75% of their silly errors...but that is just me)....etc.

See...everyone is sleeping just reading my junk here. It is all cool...stick around my man!
