I have 2 SSA Dcon 10's those are 400w SVC subs, I have currently a JBL GTO 751-EZ. Which does 750w at 2 ohms, which i do understand is fine.Steve Meade also tested the model amp below mine on the dyno and certified it pushed out well over what it was rated. My problem is that amp has no Sub Sonic filter and im running the subs in a .75 cu ft box tuned to 42hz at the moment but will soon run them in a 1.22 cubic ft box tuned to 37hz. Both of which are ported boxes. I love the JBL amp and it has a function that helps me set my gains which is cool and i got it at a good a deal and only paid $150 for it and did not realize i need a subsonic filter. This amp is small which is good because it needed to fit under a dodge ram 1500's seat, so it a perfect amp except for the fact of the lack of SSF. Another member referred me to Hlabs in choosing a Subsonic filter and i have found one Crossover Harrison Labs Pfmod TM Subsonic New | eBay this filter is a variable filter that can be set to multiple settings. The problem is its $44 and is only at a 12db octave slope. So that brings up my new question, do i keep my current amp and just spend the $44 on that SSF
OR do i send the amp back (that cost money) and buy a different amp maybe one that is better?

If you think i should send it back and buy a different one, what would be a good one?
It needs to do 800w+ @ 2 ohms
Needs a SSF, hehe
and it needs to be small enough to fit under a seat ( i can list dimensions later, but it can be a bit bigger that the JBL's, LxWxH 8-3/8 x 9-11/16
x 2-9/16)

I haven't listed a budget because i don't know where to start, i have 200$ for sure and don't mind buying from eBay or Amazon. I have found that if i find a amp somewhere look at on those websites and im bound to find it cheaper.

Thanks

That Zapco is indeed a nice amp. Nice deal on that Ken wood, not sure its for me but did you clamp test it to see what you got at 1 ohm out of it?
I am just going by the kenwood site, I do not know if their tests or power ratings are accurate, there are many good reviews on amazon and other sites.
The good thing is, it has no limitations as far as installing it vertically horizontally or upside down if needed.

You can always exceed the power handling of the subs, it does not have to be 800W, since you never will be playing at full power and you can always adjust the voltage gain with a DMM if you want to limit the excess power from any amp putting more power than the subs can handle.

A subsonic filter is nice to have, it is more effective on 8" subs to limit their excursion from potential damage, bigger subs can get away without a band pass, very few music material will play below 40hz and must 10" or larger subs with good excursion will not have issues if no SSF is available.

I understand if you push the limits of power and low freq, it may make you feel better to have a band pass filter.

The kenwood amp has a selectable subsonic filter 15 and 25hz and it also has a phase switch and bass boost dial

Haha i would like to give my subs max clean power, and i listen to rap that does hit pretty low, 25hz isnt that high of a SSF as i would like. I dont think the Kenwood is for me, what are your thoughts on the sound qubed amp?

No problem, no reason to find a reason for not selecting an amp, no pressure, just know that 25 hz would be a marginal issue for 8" subs, most experienced guys here in the forum would tell you that if you have a box tuned at 30 Hz like most are, they would tell you to set the band pass at 25-27 Hz, 5-10 hz below the tuning point. 25 Hz would more than enough protection for any sub unless it is a very cheap crappy sub with extremely limited excursion.

Good Luck! :)

U should Loki into the infinity kappa one it does [email protected] ohm, has a ssf and is around 200 bucks on sonic
Okay so i just got do me looking at it, and it looks like a solid amp. Though I have heard mixed reviews on the infinity kappa line, do you have any experience with them? Also everywhere I found it, it was around $230 except for eBay were I found 2 for cheaper, I don't want to sound like a cheapo but I didn't want to spend any more momey than i have to, unless it was really worth it. I like harmon, I mean I own a JBL right now. I like the amp and Will keep it mind, but The sound cubed has the edges over it from the looks. The soundqubed is cheaper, 1 ohm stable, has 24db slopes, and a few little things like a bass knob. I mean which would you pick? Right now it's the kappa one vs the soundqubed vs the VFL American bass 100.1. Thanks for the recomendation
