Alright, I've thought about this till my head hurts, and I'm not quite sure where I want to go in building my new system. I'll give you the setup.

My car is a 1986 Toyota Tercel wagon, and it's very much a daily driver. It has zero deadening in it at the moment, but I have a comprehensive plan to take care of that in the spring. My head unit is an Addzest DRX9255, going through a Coustic XM7 crossover. My amplification will be all US Acoustics USA series, although I'm not quite sure in what configuration. I'm selling my two USA6300s, but I have a USA2100, a USA2075, and I just secured a USA4080 today. I also have a line on some USA2050s if I need any. My sub is an Aura NS10 in a .65 sealed box, and I'll have 240 watts going to it.

My choice of music leans heavily toward classic rock and Texas blues. I've also been known to crank some Evanescence when the mood strikes. Come to think of it, although you'll never catch me listening to rap, I'll listen to anything from classical to country if the music is good.

I may or may not use rear fill in this system, but let's assume for the moment that I won't.

Until the last couple of days, I was going to take the easy way out. I have a new set of Boston Acoustics Rally series 4" components, and a pair of Hertz Space 6 mids that were going to go together to be my front stage. I say this was the easy way out because I bought the Hertz specifically for the shallow mounting depth. My car has next to nothing in the form of factory kick panels, although it does have a chamber that will be of some use behind them. The Hertz would allow for fairly flat mounting using MDF rings, although that would leave a lot to be desired in imaging. That leaves either door mounting (again less than ideal), or building some fairly extreme angled kicks.

In that case, let's just forget that I have the Hertz mids and the Boston set, and do a little figuring from scratch.

Money is a big limitation in this build, which is why it's taken me so long to acquire all the pieces. It also explains why I'm driving with no system at all in the car right now. We'll also stipulate that I absolutely can't go with 8" mids, so let's keep the suggestions to those generally considered 6.5" (although many of those are actually 7", I know). I need to be able to drive my car even with kick pods in place.

I'm thinking the Vifa TG9 would be a great 3" alternative to the high dollar drivers for the middle of this 3-way. I also have a new pair of Vifa D26NC tweeters that I could use. Given that, what would you recommend as a good cost effective SQ midbass for this application?

I don't have any personal experience with them, but I've heard a lot of good things about the ID OEM mids. Not sure what kind of space they require though.

On another note, I found these on ebay last night:

4 1/2" Woofers (pr) Boston Acoustics New Unused< - eBay (item 260358445844 end time Mar-08-09 12:08:18 PDT)

For $29 shipped for the pair, they seem very impressive. No model number or anything, and they almost look OEM because of the bronzed basket/magnet, but the specs look pretty damn good, and they are very efficient. Might want to throw those into your mix of midranges ;)
