Hey guys, new to the forum.
Here is the dumb....

what I am working with;
2006 Gmc Sierra single cab.

Equipment I have;
Alpine Cda-9887
Focal polyglass 6.5 (not sure which since already in the doors) prob entry level
Eclipse EA4100 4/3/2CH 400W max 4oHM 75WX4rms OR BRIDGED 150X2 4 ohm
Punch P600.1 325wx1 @ 4 ohms rms or 600w x 1 @ 2 ohms rms

Alpine SWR-1042D (just got this sub to replace 2 busted JL12w3)

I have it hook up passive but, will be going active soon.
As it is I am disappointed with the SQ.
The 6.5 are mounted in the doors at stock position, and the tweets I angle mounted directly above the mids.
The mids distort frequently @ moderate to higher levels and the imaging is poor.
There is alot of mid bass to fill between the fronts and the sub behind the seat .
I am thinking of selling the Type r 10 for some 12's.
I am on a budget but am open to sell and replace some gear.
Any input anyone?

This 10" dvc is a bit deeper than the 12"subs I had behind the seats.
Had to get used to having the seats forward some but no big deal.
But, now I added a top layer of mdf to the old box in order to accommodate the 10 and I find that I have to adjust the seat even further up.

I don't know what the stock position is on your truck. Are the mids mounted on the door panel (the plastic/vinyl interior panel) or directly onto the door's metal?

Did you seal your doors?

As far as I know, tweeters should be positioned high (as close to ear level as you can get them) and aimed at the opposite passenger's ear. EX: Left tweeter aimed at passenger's left ear and Right tweeter aimed at driver's right ear.

Hopefully some more people will pitch in. Also, there's a lot of good info on this forum, search for npdang's thread he made a few years ago about SQ in his car where he talks about how he used clay on his baffles for his mids, sealing his doors, etc. They are all things you can do easily/cheaply.

Cheers

Thanks casualsuspect.
The mids are mounted on the metal where they need to be and I have some deadener on the outside surface metal but, I realize now that I need to do the interior as well...and no I have not sealed the doors. To be honest, I didn't think you could possibly seal the doors due to the window seal and mounting slots. But I appears that sealing the bigger holes helps.

I guess people don't know where to start with this thread since there is alot of variables that come into play here i am begining to realize after reseaching this forum last night.

I Know I need continue to do some more research until I can have more precise questions.

Jesse,

I was where you're at right now a few weeks ago.. ;) It is hard to to give someone complete directions for something like this.. that's cool you see this. :cool:

You have a good attitude, and all the info you could need is pretty much on this forum, and maybe Basic Car Audio Electronics.. That website has alot of useful calculators and just basic & advanced info about the concepts behind car audio. Also, for a general idea, look at build threads on this forum.

For sealing the doors, try your best to do it as completely as you can (99% is a good goal).. people have written about nice boosts in midrange by sealing their doors. Also, don't seal the water drainage holes at the bottom of the door! :)

Good luck man!

EDIT: Also, I wouldn't replace your equip just yet. Try to max out your install / tuning first, then if you're still not cool, change them out. Your new equip can then piggyback onto your good install.

thanks again casualsuspect,

I'll check those links out and will take the advice about not replacing anything yet until a proper install and tune.
