Ok guys, i apologize if this gets long-winded!
I have a 2011 Sonata and i can't seem to get a typical sub to make enough volume especially the very low frequencies. So i need some advice:
I had a shop build me a custom fiberglass box like a JL stealthbox but its about .9 cubes before poly fill. I've tried a bunch of subs and can't find what i want. Either i get decent volume and boominess without good extention or a decent sounding sub but no real volume--ie sounds good with the car off and not moving but no good once driving. So....
I need suggestion on where to go from here...
1. Spend $$ on a larger custom enclosure--looking to keep as much trunk as i can--2 kids and sports
2.hunt down the best 12"sub for that enclosure
3. get a second SI BM MKIV and build a second enclosure...
4...i need options guys!!!!!!!!!! I dont want to keep throwing money at the problem....really need some advice.
Ok rant done, thanks in advance!

seems to the be general knock against the SI sub, good sound but weak output. I have never heard one, so i can't really say what i would do here in regards to buying a second one or not.

.9 is a but on the small side for a single 12, but i can see your desire to not give up on it. Are you driving the SI to its max output? What amp do you have?

also that box is kind of big for that sub...so hopefully you have no stuffing in it?

Im actually using a different sub in the custom box and using the. Si in a seperate enclosure. I keep doing comparisons. The si is in .6. My amp is a Phoenix gold ti2 1600.5
At 8 ohms for the si i have about 275 on it. At 4 ohms its 545 and at 2 its 925

I wish i could go IB, but when i think about that i lose the ability to fold down my rear seats for bigger stuff if i need it, otherwise i could use any sub/box combination and just put it all the way back. Maybe i don't have a choice lol

My opinion ditch the box and go IB with one or two 15's. Guaranteed will be worth the effort. The SQ and output can be fantastic without doing anything other than adjusting the bass volume. Output will similar to sealed and you get to keep most of your trunk space and do it on half the power.

AudiophileFred, i don't have the depth, i have maybe 6 inches.

Lizardking, i was looking at that sub as well. Let me know when you get it going.

Gregerst22, i actually do. Matter of fact u folded them down 2 days ago. I don't fold them down everyday, but enough to not block the potential. Always wanted to do IB though.

If i am reading this right, your si is 8 ohm, getting approx 275w. That is nothing for a 12 in an enclosure that small. Get a sub that sims well in that small of an enclosure at is 2 ohm. should help a lot. I have always used older, more efficient, smaller motor 12s in around 1.5 cubes. even in this case 275wrms is barely enough.

Correct, running at 8 ohms, 275 watts, which Nick said was fine to get that sub moving. And it does sound good just not enough arse for my car.

I am a little perplexed by this thread for two reasons...first is that I do not have anywhere near the tech know how to truly give any advice but what gets me is the 2nd thing...of course correct box is most important but I am running 750 watts to my 10. Jl HD and 10w7. Isn't your amp a little small for this application?

Not at all, my amp is only putting out about [email protected] ohms to the SI BM because Nick at SI said it would be fine and not to run it at 2 ohms because 900+ watts is way too much for it. And i need more output than i'm getting. Also, i have a couple other subs i've tried in the enclosure i had made getting bettwen 540 watts to 900+ depending on their impedance. Power isn't an issue :)
