First off, regardless of what the rest of the world thinks, I believe my Rockford Fosgate Power 1000 is one of the most awesome, powerful, balanced, 5ch > SQ < amps on the planet ! Couldn't be happier :)

But sometimes I get the feeling that their are a lot of guys who would like / are looking for, an amp with everything my amp could give them.... But they see the name "Rockford Fosgate", and think > Oh, that's one of those loud, but sloppy, rough, power blasters that so many of the SPL kids like to use...... while I'm into SQ...."
Hmmmmm.

Honestly, I think comparing the SQ of the power produced by any of the top amplifier manufacturers (which RF is certainly one of them) is really splitting hairs. We have had lots of threads, with a bunch of guys talking about how they can hear the sound difference from one high end amp to the next. That's fine. I can't. No sooner than I can tell the SQ difference in a lossless WAV or FLAC file, and a 320mps MP3.

Subwoofers are a 'little' different.... but still, most everyone knows the enclosure build is 90%+ of that deal.

I guess the point of my post is just to say, to anybody who thinks RF stuff is just loud, rough, SPL kid stuff, I think they should look again, and maybe reevaluate those thoughts.

Peace,
Fish

PS, I sure wish I had an extra $500 laying around.... I'd get another Power 1000, even if I just kept it under my bed :)

Who cares what other people think? If you like your amp that's all that matters.

You've mentioned that amp in about every thread you've posted.

Glad that hasn't gone unnoticed.

My system (especially for a 3 way active + 1 passive) is about as simplified as it could possibly be. My speakers are nice, but nothing special. My bass response is awesome.... but has as much, or more to do with the enclosure than anything else. My deck.... sure, I love it, but there are tons of nice decks out there, of which the SQ differences are negligable.

I just believe my amp has more to do with how my system came out, than anything else. And I'm kind of feeling like I owe RF some props. If I could sell 1 or 2 extra amps for RF, I'd feel good about that.

Peace,
Fish

Subwoofer performance does have a lot to do with the enclosure...but there is still a speaker involved and it is what ultimately reproduces the sound. In this community (DIYMA) it's hard to support an RF sub when there are more advanced drivers out there that can be had at lower prices and sound better.

I like my 3sixty.2 though. :)

Kind of hard to defend RF when their new amps have a built in EQ boost that's not defeatable...both at low and high freq.

But that's the "punch sound" you can't dispute "punch" now can you? I like punch, especially after it's had some rum put in it, so tasty.....

Meh, I've seen this pic tossed around to show how much EQ there is:

Look at the scale. That's 1.75 dB from the peak at 40-50hz, to the trough at 700hz. That's not a whole lot. I'm not crazy about the rise near 3khz, but it's still not a particularly huge amount of boost, and this is supposed to be a glaring example. I'm willing to bet most of us are making cuts in the neighborhood of 2-4dB in various spots without thinking twice about it, yet people get totally hung up on the response for an amp.

I agree an amplifier should amplify and do nothing else, but if the price is right and it makes the power I need, that response curve would not prevent me from buying that amp.

You can't defend that, it would be completely unacceptable if, say, your home CD player did that.

Edit: Just went and looked at the MSRP for that amp. **** that. I'd buy it for $150 though.
Funny how it's in the same area that the EQ bands are. I wonder if it's due to a pot tolerance or something like that. Maybe another amp might be able to be tweaked closer to 0db boost.

Peoples tastes ebb and flow, just like a tide, some of us remember when RF ruled the CA world... But, like many, they got big, followed the bandwagon, and got bigger..

They've been around forever though, much like Pioneer, which have ebbed and flowed in and out of the spotlight for many years with various hits and misses.. I mean now, look at what the 880 and 800 have done for them, and the 720PRS components.. (still a great bang for the buck)

People bag on Sony, same as above though.. Even the xPlode gear... i've got a CDX-M70 in my car that's almost 10yrs old now (in my DD that is) I've never had a problem with it, it's served me well and sounded decent doing it...

I don't know where I was going with this now... lol..

If you can't hear the different between a 320kbps MP3 and a lossless FLAC / WAV, then you are one of the very lucky few who doesn't suffer from fine hearing. I'd say go for it, pickup whatever equipment is cheapest and will give you the most power.

I, however, am cursed with extremely fine hearing, and can easily distinguish the differences between different amps, and 320kbps MP3s sound like crap to me (yeah, I actually can hear the compression and various artifacts). That's why I bought a McIntosh amp... it has extremely low distortion for the picky people like me.

As far as what other people think, who f**king cares? Are they paying for your equipment? No? Then seriously... why would you care?

I agree with the who the **** cares, it's yours but the difference between compression codecs even at 320KB/Sec is vastly different than the difference between 2 properly working and designed amplifiers.

I'd say you suffer from something but it's not fine hearing. :D:laugh::p;)

Damnit Jim ! My timing sucks !

I post a thread that gets a ton of responses, a lot of which I'd like to reply to, then I have to go to effing work :-(

So tonight, the thread will be played out, and it won't matter what I respond to, as no body will come back to read it anyway.

I have the easiest job in the world, but just having to be there SUCKS !

Urgggg...
