Hi all, I currently drive a 2008 VW R32 and had a questions regarding the setup of the Alpine PDX-4.100 amp. My car came with a 10 speaker sound system powered by factory amp (10 channel as well). I went ahead and replaced the head unit with a Pioneer 980BT, put a JL Audio stealth enclosure in the hatch which houses a 10W6v2 powered by a PDX-1.600.

For the mids and highs I purchased a PDX-4.100 and a 3 way Hertz HSK 163. Currently I have the 2 channels powering the 3 way and 2 channels powering the factory rears.

The problem is the rears sound like crap. I have them x over by the radio at 125Hz. I have tried the setup with and without rear fill and prefer the sound with rear fill and plan on replacing the factory speakers with another set of HSK sometime in the near future.

In the meantime I was wondering if it was possible to split up the 3 way set by powering the 6 1/2 by 1 channels each. Have the remainder two channels power the mid/tweeter and the factory speakers powered by the the head unit.

I was also considering getting a set of MLK165 and throwing them up front and moving the HSK tweet and 6 1/2 to the back not sure how it would work with the 3 inch mid still in the front door though. Any input would be appreciated.

i suppose u could go active for the fronts and wire it like u said.. i don't think the pdx cares too much what impedance u run. hertz gives u good idea what frequences to run at here. or u could bridge the pdx 4.100 and run 200 watts to the Hertz.

I spoke with an Alpine rep about how to bridge the amp to two channels and he said if I bridged the amp it wouldn't do much because the Alpine doesn't care about impedance. I really didn't follow him on that because the website states you can run the amp in 4/3/2 channels? Didn't really make sense to me what the rep was saying but I just told him if you say so.

That is why I was wondering about running 1 channel to each 6 1/2 and 1 channel to each mid/tweeter pair while letting the head unit push the rears.

yes, impedance doesn't seem to matter for the pdx, 2 ohm and 4 ohm is both rated at 100 watts. however, bridged, it is supposed to be rated at 200 watts for 2 channels.. that is what i'm going to be running for my front. (select 1+3/2+4, and then left rca split into channels 1 and 2, right rca split into 3 and 4, left speaker wire 1+ and 2-, right speaker wire 3+ and 4-).

Will do! Thanks for the help.

a little update on bridging this thing.. it was easier when it's in front of u to play with and a cd that tests each channel individually..

if u use the 1+3/2+4, it's left speaker 1+ and 3-, right speaker 2+ and 4-, left rca split into channel 1 and 3, right rca split into channel 2 and 4.

or, without using the split, set the thing to 1/2, and then wire the left speaker 1+ and 3-, right speaker 2+ and 4-, left rca in to channel 1, right rca into channel 2.
