for those that have no idea what im talking about im talkic about two HU models

Pioneer DEH-P880PRS
and
Pioneer DEH-P800PRS

ive been thinking about getting a new deck and have come across the 880 a few times on DIYMA....i have not heard a true "perfected" system as the hobby is limited in my area so i was thinking the HU's Auto eq feature could give me some grasp at quality as well as increase my curent systems performance.

my curent deck is a Sony CDX-GT630UI.....i think its "overated" and the pioneer wouldmake quite a diffrence but if im wrong please tell me

and if i do decide to go with the pioneer i wasnt sure if i should go with the 880 or the upgraded 800...there is only a $40 diffrence between themm of ebay sooo...

You may as well get the newer 800PRS if it's only $40 difference.

I used to run the 880 and I found the auto eq/ta to be quite useful. I tweaked the system further after I ran it, but it gave me a really good starting point. Some people talk **** about it, but I thought it worked pretty damn good for being included in the head unit.

I'm pretty sure the only differences are the color and that the 800 has a copper plated chassis. Besides that, they are the same HU.
^^^^^**** sucking auto dupe

ok well a few more questions then..since i aprently cant speak english or the specs are giberish....

does it have a usb out? from what i gathered u could buy an optional ipod cable ..but i have a creative zen and i run my curent deck off of my mp3 player or flash drive i keep on my keychain (i forget my music somtimes)

idc if i habe to buy an adapter to be able to use usb device such as my mp3 player i just want to make sure it can.....

note: so the 800 isnt missing any features the 880 has does it?

from what i read the 800 has blue tooth cababliity and the 880 doesnt...it had very few changes...

but id rather hear from peeps here for confirmation ^.^
No usb or bluetooth or ipod, unless you buy the separate adapter boxes. You can't just buy the ipod cable that the new pioneers use, you have to buy the entire box.
I haven't done any research on the 800's bluetooth capabilities, but I can speak firsthand on its USB situation since I just put one in this afternoon.
The bad news is in order to use a USB input, you'll need the Pioneer CD-UB100 which is about $100 most paces. The better news is you can find it for a lot less, Crutchfield has been selling out of them at $29 and another place online has them for $24.

I haven't used the USB, but it hear it's terrible. Only 8 character display right?
The iPod control on my old 880, was "ok" at best. I could track up and track down, no problem. The worst was searching through artists, it would lag about 5 seconds or more, before the artist info would display, and there wasn't a quick jump feature. If I scrolled to an artist under G, if I picked the wrong CD, I had the scroll all the way back to G, there's no way to flip through whole CDs at a time, or there aren't any buttons to press to jump me closer to G.

Those are two things my 9887 does, and I'm sooooo happy that it does, plus scrolling is a **** load easier.

Yep, 8 characters. You can show folder number, track number, folder name, track name, artist name, etc, but just the first 8 characters and only one of the above. My AVH-P4000DVD had me spoiled with its USB interface, but I'm not crying. I'll probably just rename the albums in the music file I use for my thumb drive, to 8 characters or less.

And as difficult as the ipod control is. I hear the usb is even worse. I personally don't mind the ipod control on my 880 though, the lag is nowhere near 5 seconds, 2 at the very most, but when you're driving and trying to find a particular song it feels like an hour.

The most significant difference between the two HU's is that the 800 can do a three-way active and the 880 can only do a two-way form what I understand.

They both do 3-way in network mode and dual 2-way in standard mode.

It's terrible, and not just because of the 8 character limit.

I use the USB100 along with the 980BT and:

1. It has to read the entire flipping USB drive before it can start playing any music. In my car, that means almost 30 seconds for the music to start playing if the car is restarted.

2. It's horrible at higher bit rates. Expect to hear breaks, skipping or sometimes nothing at all.

The 980BT and the USB100 will be the first items I'll be replacing in my car once someone comes out with a decent affordable HU that offers the same tuning features as the 980BT along with better playback via USB and BT.

Thanks TREETOP, always wondered if that was correct. Someone told me that when I was ready to purchase mine and that's why I ended up with the 800.

For me it was. After using it a while I got used to having to turn the encoder a lot, so I would just constantly turn it figuring I would land somewhere close. When you crank it out like that, you're still flipping through artists even though you aren't getting visual feedback, yes it would take up to 5 seconds for it to figure out wtf just happened.

Other than that, it really isn't that bad. The iPod controls had little to do with me getting rid of it, other things irked me about the 880.

keep in mind i have not heard a true "PEFECTION TUNED" sound system so i dont really no what it SHOULD sound like............from wht ive heard the 800s are like godlike....but thats from reviews
The CD-IB 100 was awful, got terrible reviews, was replaced by the CD-IB 100 mkII, only get the Mk II.
