Out of the 12ish years I've been in car audio I've never had a double din so this is all new to me. Truck is a 11 Ram (base factory radio so nothing fancy). I'm reading the manual for my new deh-1700s and two connections are somewhat confusing me...the green wire for the e-brake and the reverse light (violet with white stripe). A backup camera will be installed and used A LOT since my boat trailer is a little tricky to line up on and I hook up by myself 100% of the time. Gotta love those extended trailer tongues!

According to the manual the reverse wire (violet/white) is supposed to be hooked up to the backup lamp where the voltage changes. Does that just mean I'll have to test and see if the positive or ground is the circuit being opened and closed? I'm guessing it would be positive since all the grounds are probably tied into the same main wire.

On the e-brake wire it states to tap into the power supply for it. I haven't looked to see what's going on under there. How will I know I'm tapping into the right wire for this? I'm guessing that green wire goes to the sensor that hollers at you when the e-brake is engaged? Hell I never even set the e-brake unless I'm on a boat ramp or parked on an incline in general. What features are disabled when the e-brake is engaged? I know about the bypass microswitch a lot of people are getting but if I don't lose features I'll be using regularly what's the point of buying it? I won't be using autotune or watching video's on the screen.

For the e brake all you need is a simple toggle switch. Wire it in line with the ground in the harness and all you'll have to do is turn it on then back off and you'll be good to go. The reverse wire is used to sense 12 volts. The back up lights in the tail light... The ones that turn on when you put your truck in revers are the ones you'll want to tap into. I usually try to find them up front in one of the kick panels. But you can just use a t-tap and tap the positive lead going into the reverse light and run it up front with the power, ground and video wires that are coming from the back up cam.

I have installed like 7 or 8 of these new pioneers in the last week and I'll be doing my own 4700 bs tomorrow afternoon.
They have all worked great and beat the hell out of alpine in the simplicity of the install. Be glad you didn't have to try a bypass on one of those.
Oh and sorry for that wall of text up there I'm on my phone and it's hard to judge the text. Good luck with the install

I remember the good old days when you could just send the e-brake wire to ground. Better times... so much Ace Ventura on my way to work...

Thomas, will you go into more detail about the toggle to ground for e brake? Will you spell it out on how you do it when installing these units? Thanks.

Ok so ground the green wire with the ground in the harness along with the ground from the hu. Then cut the green wire in half. Run one side of the green wire to one side of the toggle. Doesn't matter which one. The other side of the green wire will be connected to the other side of th toggle.

Then when you turn the unit on you can just flip the toggle on then off. It mimics what the ebrake would do when you engage then deengage then engage it again like the manual states. It's really simple once you get the idea. It's just hard for me to show you in words. All I have is my phone or I could draw you a diagram. Maybe I can find one and post a link for you.

I think I got it. You're talking about the ground in the e-brake harness correct? Then of course the headunit.
