Out of the 12ish years I've been in car audio I've never had a double din so this is all new to me. Truck is a 11 Ram (base factory radio so nothing fancy). I'm reading the manual for my new deh-1700s and two connections are somewhat confusing me...the green wire for the e-brake and the reverse light (violet with white stripe). A backup camera will be installed and used A LOT since my boat trailer is a little tricky to line up on and I hook up by myself 100% of the time. Gotta love those extended trailer tongues!
According to the manual the reverse wire (violet/white) is supposed to be hooked up to the backup lamp where the voltage changes. Does that just mean I'll have to test and see if the positive or ground is the circuit being opened and closed? I'm guessing it would be positive since all the grounds are probably tied into the same main wire.
On the e-brake wire it states to tap into the power supply for it. I haven't looked to see what's going on under there. How will I know I'm tapping into the right wire for this? I'm guessing that green wire goes to the sensor that hollers at you when the e-brake is engaged? Hell I never even set the e-brake unless I'm on a boat ramp or parked on an incline in general. What features are disabled when the e-brake is engaged? I know about the bypass microswitch a lot of people are getting but if I don't lose features I'll be using regularly what's the point of buying it? I won't be using autotune or watching video's on the screen.
