JL rates their slash amps with constant output between 1.5 and 4 ohms. Does anyone have have any info on the power they will put out at 8ohm? The usual 1/2 or could it be drastically higher or lower based on what is done to keep output constant from 1.5-4?
Expect 60%-70% of the 4-ohm output into 8ohms, or 100% if running in bridged mono configuration. Which is typical for decent amps. No amp truly doubles output with halving of impedance. That's a marketing thing, not a reality thing. The good amps tend to take whatever they can do at the lowest rated impedance and publish higher impedance ratings based on what a theoretically perfect amp would do.
for what its worth ,the jl 300/2 tested in car audio and elect. in march 02 did 157wpch 12.5v 4 ohm stereo,187wpch 2 ohm stereo,197wpch 1.5 ohm stereo, and 1 by 395 3 ohm mono, all were same with 14.4 due to the stiffly regulated power supply
