Protect mode boss riot 1100w amp

I have a boss riot 1100w monoblock amp pushing two 12"s there hifonics Zeus 4ohm subs. It worked fine for the past four months. When I started my car the other day my subs did not work. I'll lookedat the amp and seen the protect light was on. I disconnected the speaker wires RCA cable and remote wire. I could not find any problems with the wires or cables. When I plugged everything back in the protect light was off soon as I turned the speakers up a little bit protect mom came back on. Any help would be much appreciated!!! I am new to this pretty green still only hooked up for car stereo systems but they all worked fine.

take a close look at the subs.
shorted voice coil or bad wire.... or ....

Unhook the subs from the amp and see if it still goes into protect when you dial up the volume.

Given it sounds like the amp may play at low volume, but goes into protect when you dial up the volume, I wonder how you went about setting the gain. It could be set too high.

Also wonder about all other settings on the amp and HU. Would you inform us of them please? And what are the model number of the subs and HU?
