I'm gonna start building a sealed enclosure for two 12" subs tonite.
The propaganda from the sub company suggests 1cf volume for each sub. That would mean 2cf for the entire enclosure. If I end up with around 2.5cf what will that hurt? Will it hurt?
I know I can add wood blocks or whatever as a "filler" if need be. I havent build the thing yet, but I'm just curious as to what would happen if it's slightly larger in volume than recommended (when sealed).

thanks.

nothing really just the tuning of the enclosure would be different
i had a subwoofer once in the manufactured specs the subwoofer was too peaky at around 50hz i made the enclosure almost 3 times its manufactured specs and it worked very well for me and i got very close to a qtc of .707 but it maynot be the same with your woofer

to calculate your qtc google qtc calculator

Bigger the box ~ lower notes it will play, less power it will need or take ;)

conversely, if the box is small it will handle more power and the lower notes will suffer [ lack of extended bass response ].

That all (mostly) makes sense. I think Ima make the enclosure a little bit bigger anyway. Just to see. I plan to screw around in the coming months and make a few different enclosures to what all will happen and wont happen.

If it matters, I'm running 2 Hifonics 12's. They are zx12d4 models. I'm going to be powering them on a Hifonics Bxi1210d amp @ 1ohm. I think the amp will prolly push more than what the subs can handle, but I'm not one to just completely stupid with the volume knob.

Also, I'll be using 3/4 MDF to create any and all enclosures. This seems to be the best idea.

Thanks for the help/suggestions. I knew I was going to like this site.

I'm just making one sealed enclosure. Actually about to get started on that shortly (if I can dodge a side job for today). The others I want to build will be vented/ported set-ups.

I'm going to make the sealed one about 1cf larger than it should be and try stuffing to change things around some with it (if need be).
