Before I buy one of these, I have a question. It list (4) inputs, (2) aux inputs and (8) outputs. Can I use front and rear outputs on my Head unit to the 4 inputs AND then plug the sub out on my Head unit to the AUX input and have those output as separate controllable channels so I can still use the sub level on my pioneer head unit? ANd then maybe "sum" the left over two outputs into my front (out from headunit, in to dsr1).

The Aux inputs are for other sources like a CD player or etc. The DSR has a main level control and all of the outputs volume can be controlled as well via the app. I run a two way up front with a sub and use either the sub volume on the DSR or the sub volume knob from my amplifier.

You don’t need to add the sub channel to the dsr1, with just the front and rear rca’s is all that’s needed. Then in the app you can configure your layout of the speakers and then the crossover points for each/ set of speakers.

I
I’d also suggest using the front and sub out from your HU. Then use the app to control rear speaker level when you need to change them.
thought about that, but I just had my mind set on I wanted to be able to use my fader, time alignment, sub volume and separate speaker volume that are features built in my radio. I'm 100% dead set against having to use a separate bass know and also having to get my phone out, open app, connect, and then make changes. Not quite the fun i'd imagine while trying to drive and messing with all of that. I know I'm weird, but i just prefer to set the dsp and barely ever fool with it and just use my headunits functions as intended.

yes....see above post...
See the posts above that…

If you use front and sub from your HU you will still use the HU sub level to control your sub volume. TA is done in the DSR1, so no need for TA through your HU, unless you use “Positions” or something. Same with levels. Not sure why you would need fader. If you still need all of that, you could also use front and rear from HU and use a knob for sub volume; much easier than any HU adjustment or app.

Do you even need an external DSP since your HU has so many DSP functions built in already?

I do use positions.
I like being able to dial in each speaker level. If I use the dsr1 to do that, then the headunit levels will turn the head unit powered speakers (tweets and widebands) up and down at independent volumes of the dsr1.
I like to have a fader.
I don’t like sun knobs and I don’t want to cut or drill anything in my car for a sub knob. Plus, as I mentioned, I don’t want a sub knob. Anyways, sounds like the dsr1 isn’t what I’m looking for

Youre really thinking about this too hard.

When's the last time to adjusted your fader?

Use the front channel for input 1, and the subwoofer channel for input 2. Stop using the HU for stuff.

Set your F/R levels and TA and EQ in the DSP and be done with it.

When's the last time to adjusted your fader? Last night. the day before that and the day before that.

Lol, I know you may not get it, but I don't want to use the head unit for switching songs, then the dsp for other adjustments and then a bass knob for yet another adjustment. weird...i know...but I'd rather control everything from one place.

Set your F/R levels and TA and EQ in the DSP and be done with it. easy to say, not easy to do....

At this point in time. I'm gonna say you don't want a dsp.
You think you do. You want to want a dsp. But you don't.
You wanna be in agony. Purchase Paralysis
You are 100% correct. however, after playing with the dayton dsp-LF last night (piece of poop that it is) I realize I NEED one to get everything how i want it. It made things much nicer sounding. There a song that i listen to that will bottom my subs everytime if I don't turn the sub volume down on that particular song....the dsp tamed it (i think theres a sharp PEAK in frequency of my subs that the bass note happens to be at) So I ran the auto eq feature of it and it tamed it amazingly well, and then i boosted the 22-30hz region like i need and it so much better than without. Then i dream of having something with less idle noise and a more elegant app.....

I’m using this on my dsr1 for the bass control knob. If you have a center console, you could hide it in there or just used double sided tape or Velcro to no make any holes.

I used to be a tester for fosgate. I have all sorts of stuff laying, including a bass knob or two and amps, speakers etc, even a couple amps I didn't realize i had. Its not that I don't want to buy a knob, I just don't want one. If you hate mayonnaise, do you think I could ever convince you to like it? lol. That's how I feel.....I already went through the attempted convincing of bass knobs in other threads and no one was successful. However, when i saw the helix conductor....I almost caved.... until I saw the price!

you could install a DSP, tune your sub, then really have no need for a bass knob.

bonus points: you can still constantly change the sub level on your HU, because why wouldn't you?
