I'm looking for a midbass to pair with my Tweet right now, I already have a LPG 26na (used), and i've heard a few things about this midbass, nothing really informative though. Was hoping someone could help me out a tad.

Was hoping i could get some info on how this driver performs from 50/60hz on up to meet with the 26na without any breakup, I'm not sure where the 26na starts to breakup but i would love if it could get on up into the 3-4k range very strong and still have an awesome midrange for the time being.

there not too expensive either, $56/each on madisound, couldn't get into the store from here at DIYmobileaudio.com

Will be mounted IB in my doors, Tweets i want in the A-pillar.
Will first get 82rms @4ohms, and will then be bumped up to 160rms @ 4ohms when i go 3way up front.

Also wanting to get a Behringer DCX2496 for Active setup.

Suggestions other than the Seas are welcome as well? hopefully not over $75/each.

I have a NEXT 4.400 and 2.400 for front stage duties.

You can get the CA18RNX for a little cheaper by e-mailing npdang himself. I'm not sure about the 26nfa. But with the 25NFA you can make a clean transisition between the ca18RNX and the 25nfa. Also the midbass is stronger on the CA18RNX than on any other mids I've tried (especially in that price range).

You can read up a little about it from this thread:

Thanks, i had read through that topic before i had posted, and was referred to look at the Seas CA18 from someone on another forum, but just havn't found any good info about the driver, or raving claims about it. It looks like a very strong driver, a decently shallow depth for the 7" size, and as you put it a strong pressence for its price. I'll email npdang and see what he thinks, and hopefully get a referral to a midrange that will sound awesome as well.

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it alot.

BTW just from reading the post you sourced, i didn't catch crossover frequencies and whatnot. Would you mind sharing that, what kind of Frequency range is the CA18 taking right now. I like the 26na alot, i'm using it right now in my HT and man does it sound good.

That's probably the best mid for the money Imho. Very smooth, extended midrange response and the mid/bass is just phenomenal. It's also a fairly open, natural sounding mid. Better than many others, and very good... for what you pay there's really not much that can touch it.

How high can the midrange extend without having any audible problems, as well as the integration in the 3k hz area with the LPG 26na, And how low can it go with considerable output, as i think the excusion is limited to 6mm one way, IIRC. I'm looking for plenty of detail in the midrange, powerful accurate midbass, and a good integration with the Tweeter i already have. As well as a smooth integration with a Tempest around 50-60hz, If it can get that low very strong.

demon2091tb, I haven't really sat down to EQ it yet. But Lately I've been doing 2.5khz all the way down to 63khz and it sounds pretty good.

Since you already have a HT setup, buying a set of CA18RNX and putting them in your HT setup would be quick and easy. It won't be too expensive either.

Good luck with your purchase. Take your time to decide, and have fun!

This setup is for the Car, I hooked up the 26na's onto the passive that i had in my bookshelves, i think the crossover is b/w 2.5k and 3.5k i'm not really sure of any of the details with the crossover but the 26na was a practical drop in. The setup that the crossover was built for was the Audax TM025F1, and the Vifa P17SJ-00. And it sounded good, didn't have enough channel seperation until i dropped the 26na in and a tad bit of messing with the onboard EQ on my reciever and it was awesome.

As far as going in the car, the 26na will be mounted up in the A-pillar pointing at each other, just a few degree's towards the windshield, Or thats my plans so far. Midbass IB in the door, hopefully this will give me a good amount of midrange, and i wonder because i will be off axis at 30-60 degrees dependant on the side of the car. And i wonder about the offaxis midrange and if my image will be ruined by having the midbass extend up to 3k or so.

Anyway thats just a few problems i've looked at that i may have. But when i get the drivers in after i order them, the Seas CA18RNX, i'll drop them into the Passive crossover that i have for the HT and try them out at the frequency it is set out, and see how the midrange blends with the tweeter, as i'm sure the midbass will be awesome, looks like a pretty beefy driver.

BTW are they 8ohm drivers or what?

The CA18RNX are rated at 8ohms. But when I measured them with a DMM I get 6.3Ohms.

Also be careful of passive xovers. The xover points are dependent on impedence (ohm ratings). So if the ohm's are different, it WILL shift the xover points.

Yea i know that, wasn't sure how much they would shift though. I do want to be able to test them together before i put them in the car though, any idea how i could get around that with little problems?

Not really... Hrm you mentioned you were going to get a Behringer DCX2496. Why don't you get that and try it in your home setup first. The Behringer DCX2496 will get you all those xover points you need.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with a HT setup since I know the environment will be totally different from that of a car. Since you are carefully selecting the right components, why not take the time and get them installed correct in the car, and then EQ them while they are in the car. I think EQ'ing them in the HT setup wouldn't help much when it comes to EQ'ing them in the car.

Well i basically was just wanting to do it until i got the car set and everything, still in the first motions of buying the car and all, so i thought i could go ahead and get a jump start and hear the abilities of the driver, thats all really. Still not sold on the DCX2496 yet, not sure if i want to dish out ~300 for the unit or not, thats a hefty amount, in my eyes. But i'm sure it would be an awesome buy, i downloaded the program and played with it some, not sure about 1/2 the stuff on the unit but the crossover and EQ were fairly straight foward.

I will also need a decent quality LOC, i have a PAC adjustable LOC, not sure of the output voltage though, as i'm using the stock HU in the car, to keep it factory looking as possible.

If you're keeping the stock unit, you'll definately want to invest in the Behringer DCX2496. The time alignment alone will make a difference in how your system sounds. Trust me, $300 is a nice price to pay especially if you keep your stock headunit and still have all the capabilities you need. I don't know anything about the speaker outs though, good luck with finding out how that works.

More and more people are trying to keep their stock unit, so I think a few companies has already designed pretty good line out converters. I think JL was one of those companies. I read it in a magazine somewhere... I'm somewhat interested since I'll be picking up a new car in a few years and probably want it to stay stock (looking, not sounding!). So let me know if you find any good info on it.

I've heard about the JL unit as well, i think its called the Cleansweep, its supposed to be about $350, and drops all of the manufacutred HU EQ settings, ones programmed already into the HU, and makes everything completely flat, also has line driver and converts to RCA, thats really all i know, Not sure if its worth $350, or the actual retail price on it but who knows, sounds a bit steap to me.
