obviously the seas is going to beat the other three in the midbass department. how's are the utopias/hexs/dyns in terms of upper midbass and midrange ? have these ever been tested by npdang, i'd love to see a comparison to see how awesome the ca18rnx/g18rnx/excels really are !!

why dont you try them yourself and actually *hear* how awesome hey really are..!?

just because some (experienced) people think theyre good, doesnt mean youll think theyre good.. ;)

utopias, hexs, and dyns dont even sound anything like each other..i dont know how you could possibly consider a wide range of sounds like that...?

hello mr. Dave!

from which speakers are you likely to power from your almighty [T][R] TO3 2.250 amplifier..?

From the other three you listed, my top to bottom list goes like this:

mw160GT-->Utopia-->Hex

Then again, that is me.

Remember, this board favors Seas a lot so expect some bias.

The key to listening and choosing which speakers are good is to not listen to 10K2HVN :D

I do hate these open ended this vs. that vs. this vs. that threads :) But here goes:

Utopias are pretty good bass wise and a close performer to the Seas (I'm assuming G18 since you don't specify) but the Dyns and Hex are much worse, with limited output.

Midrange wise, I enjoy the sound of the Utopias. It's pretty smooth, a bit heavy, and liquid sounding. Hex sound mushy and muddy to me (the old Eton series), and the Dyns being probably the most detailed out of the three, but a bit laid back. Seas would really depend on the model.

As 10k2hvn mentioned, these all sound completely different. It may help if you narrow down the type of driver you're looking for.

Those 'power hungry' Seas Lotus Ref's we were talking about :) Working on saving up for the mids .. $310 of ouchness .. then we can see if I have room for LCY's.

I'm thinking my Gen Dual Mono on the Lotus Mids .. tweet/ribbon/amp unknown still.

The Dyns are power monsters as well. I have given them up to 550 watts before as a test and they just laughed at me and wanted more!

Well I'm not talking about actual music power .. just saying thats what mids I was gonna stick on them.

If you threw a real/measured 550w at the dyn mids and they didn't cry, that's freaking awesome :)
Hey Dave,

Just want to say...nice amps you've got there. :)

AzGrower,

550 watts is awesome indeed. I only have mine with 150wattsx2 off a Genesis Dual Mono...it's too loud for me...can't crank it up really high anymore. I have mine in an enclosure in the floors...noted an increase in volume as compared when I had it in the doors.

Dave,

Thanks!

The DM on the lotus...sounds like a good plan. Please do post a review if ever you got them hooked up. :)
