Hey guys,

I'm close to ordering my speakers, but i wanted to make sure i'm not missing any options before i purchase them. I've been lurking around this board and have been pushed that the SEAS are the way to go. I'm looking for a kick-ass 2-way active setup. Currently and will be using a Focal TN52 tweeter, and a SEAS Lotus 12" Subwoofer. Which woofer would fit well in this setup? Out of the 3 seas, only the refrence is a 4 ohm driver. I plan to use them on my 6x50 Diamond D7056 amp, and bridging the last 4 channel to 2 chanel to run 100x2 to the drivers, and 50x2 to the tweeters.

What do you guys recommend? I in on the east coast, i have never heard a seas speaker in my life, except for my lotus subwoofer. Please advise or suggest other kick ass speakers for an awsome 2-way setup.

Hey man, what state do you live in on the east coast? If I had to do create a 2-way in my car I would go with the W18NX and really seal the door well.

I am not experienced enough to know what sort of treatments were done to the Lotus drivers to protect them from the environment but they might be a better bet for you if you think they might be susceptible to the conditions. Might not be a big worry in a Lexus. They are 4 ohm drivers which might help out but I think the 8 ohm speakers would work just fine.

I would pick the nextel cone over the magnesium because it is easier to implement a higher crossover point. Also, I have read they will have more bass impact than the W18E.

If i wanted to stay 2-way, I would definitely go with the LCY Ribbons and SEAS Excel Magnesiums. Right now, i have the Seas L18RNX with LCY's and freaken love them (its all in the tuning though).. but i also have some Lotus RM110's waiting to be installed, this should raise my soundstage a little, but i really dont need them considering how good it sounds now.

Heres how to install a 7x3" woofer in our doors:

^edited: link should work now.

The thing that's gotten me the most concerened is teh impedance of the speakers. I'm worried i'm not gonna get enough juice to light the 8 ohm speakers. Where as teh 4 ohm refrence woofer can be easily powered by my 50x2 or 100x2 bridged.

How far behind does the refrence speaker compared to the nextels i performance/quality wise??

id take the nextels IMO look at the loudspeaker reviews
yeah, the Nextels with the TN52's (because of both the drivers limited extension problems) but i was talkin about with the LCY's! :D

I have my L18's xoverd at 1.2khz (second) and LCY's at 3.2khz (second) and OMFG its the best ive ever had it (with a little eq'ing inbetween, naturally)!! and with the W18's xovered under 1.5khz theyll be fine. :)

now, what if i only want to use teh TN52 as a temp solution, maybe get some LCY's in the future or other tweeter. Which one would you recommend then? The W18E001?

10K2HVN: Did you "down grade" your speakers? Going from RW165's to L18's?

yup yup! i wouldnt consider it a down grade more then a means to save money, because i was always planning a 3-way front stage and i didnt need such an expensive/best midrange driver when i was only planing to use it for midbass.

however, now that i have a job i would love to have the Lotus Ref's back, so i have almost all matching equipment, but this would only be for esthetics (in terms of midbass).

so what do you guys think about the refrence woofers? i like how they are 4 ohm and more geared for car audio... but do they really lack that much compared to the mag and nextels?

they are the mag's! theyre based off the older version of the Excel magnesiums. If youre not a bass head, youll love those drivers! To make things clear, they DO NOT lack bass or midbass. Theyre very linear. They just dont overwhelm you with bass/midbass. i would prefer them for that reason. very nice woofers.

plus, with the amount of power that your limited with, you should consider those drivers for more dynamics. ;)

hey, i got ended up crossing my L18's at the same point. They sound really good, and I'm only giving them about 20watts from an Arc 4050XXK. About 4 ou of the 5 bands on my parametric eq are being used for it though :p

it's matching with a Rainbow Pro tweet at 3.2kz 12db/octave

I also boasted 1.6khz +2 db with a wide Q of .5 (or was it 1.4khz??) on the woofers. I tried an xover point of 1.4khz with no eq boast, but it sounded kinda funny. maybe ill try it again but cut it a little - but it sounds really good right now.. then with my tweeters i cut (eq'ed) -i think it was 1.6khz with a .5 q by -2db. though its also dependant on the install, too....

when i had about 40 watts on my L18's they sounded good and got loud too! but man, when i put 150 on them you could tell the difference at those same loud listening levels!

yeah, i had 100watts on them and they were a lot louder, but i was using them as dedicated mdbass. I'm using them temporarily in a 2-way. They are great sounding speakers, but the upper midrange is kinda funny, and they dont get as loud as i want them to with only about 20 watts.

When I get them pumping they make a wierd rattleing noise. I think it's my install though. I think if i put them in a sealed enclosure they would be a lot better.

In low end extension I'd have to say yes. In overall output, it's just a small bit. The big advantage is that it's completely weather proofed... and you get a warranty.
