Hey everyone new to the forum and to car audio.I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 ext cab and am looking to upgrade the speakers. I already have a alpine CDA-9811 deck, and a PowerAcoustik 600 watt amp. I was looking at the Alpine Type X Spx-17ref component system for the front. and the Infinity Kappa 462.7CFP 4" x 6" for the rear.
I am wondering if this would be a good setup or if you have any other suggestions. I would like to stay below $450 for the front and rear speakers. Thanks

Have you deadened your doors yet? If not go to www.raamaudio.com and read the tutorials on deadening your doors. Half a roll should be plenty for your doors and it will be the best money you can spend on your install. The component set you have picked out is a nice set. Spend the money you were going to spend on the rears on deadener. MUCH better choice.

Hillbilly's very right...you really don't need rear speakers. i think you'll also be able to find better comps for a better price unless u have sum connections, then forget what i said. i used to have the spx's and i found theres cheaper comps that sound comparable if not better.

Second Skin Audio is also a good place to get sound dampening. Haven't used there stuff yet but great prices and great specs. Can't wait to make my order.

it all depends on your goals. Theres all kinds of comps out there so u kinda gotta narrow it down. To keep in that price range tho i really liked the Pioneer 720prs and the Oz audio 130cs's. They seemed to blend very well. It's not what i like tho it's what u want in your system.

I'm not bad talking the alpines at all. I love them. I was mainly jus curious why u chose them.

Personally the spx's are clear and sound nice as hell but lack in the lowend area. They don't have a lot of kick in em, basically is what i'm sayin. I listen to a lot of rock so midbass frequencies that play the majority of the bass jus weren't there enough for me

Well if you want your basic dampening that does wonders the damplifier seems awesome and has awesome results. Plus Ant is a really nice guy and he'll help with whatever needs u may have and be glad to talk to u about it. Sound dampening will bring all the difference in the world with your system so honestly ditch the rear speakers and buy sum sound deadener. Especially in a truck the rear speakers are totally unnecessary with a good front stage.

im glad this thread came up. im doing a similar build, but starting from scratch.

could anyone else recommend some 6.5 comps in the $180-$230 range, and is there any hangups on mounting depths in the front doors?

I ran the Image Dynamics CTX65cs for a few months, and for a $200 set they were fantastic. Very strong midbass from the 6.5s but those puppies could sing too.

I have the 720prs' in one truck and spx's in the other..:) although the spx's i added the Oz Audio midbass to it. I wish i had a camera to post pics but even if i did, i'm not very computer literate and probably wouldn't be able to figure it out anyway.

I like the the truck with the spx's better but that's only because i'm running a 3 way system, therefore it's a fuller sound. The 720prs are absolutely amazing for their price. Some say the tweeters are a little harsh but i don't think they are. It's mounted in my kick panel so that may be why? Idk. I listen to all types of rock too, and pretty much nothin else. The tweeter i would think would sound the most harsh in that musical environment, and really it doesn't to me. Just my 2 cents

Couldn't agree more. I have the exact same truck. I deadened inner and outer door panels and used a spray on the skin itself. Took hours but makes a real world difference. Make this investment!
