this is a question for the gods here at diy.
can you run a single voice coil on a dvc and what affects does it have?

nm oops
Theoretically it is fine. It won't do any damage. You just lose output.

It raises the Q. I read somewhere about this being done for HT IB setups.
seen what it is is i have a rockford p3d210 which is a dvc 10" dual 2 ohm and i wanna take advantage of a mono amp as my next system. i have decided the new amps i will get is either 2 pioneer premnier prsd2100t's or a rockford p300-2 for my 3 piece fronts and a p500-2 for my sub channel but i would love to get a mono amp. if i could then i could wire a single coil.
Yeaaaa it doesn't work like that.

Just wire the coils in series.
yep, i never have done it that way, i was just curious what would happen. by the way nice install. was the kenwood excelons your 1st choice? i considered them but the dampening factor was low though the "Dual Sigma Drive" system makes up for it. i would have chosen those or the non excelons but they are to wide. check out my 02 elantra build. on am in del mar ca

Correct

Go look at DLS subs they quite often recommend only powering one voice coil depending on the alignment your using them in, as stated you'll lose output and also power handling.
You could do RDO (raise your Qts as you see fit) if you wanted to if you're only using one coil. :D Click me to read about RDO. But using only one coil diminishes your power handling significantly.

The bolded portion you lost me on. What does only wiring a mono amp have to do with ony running a single voice coil?

You run the DVC in series to a mono or 2 channel bridged what does it matter.

You can run the DVC sub on the P500-2 for the sub as long the DVC sub does not present a ohm load the amp will not handle.

Hope this helps:

Example:
2ohm DVC in parallel = 1ohm load
2ohm DVC in series = 4ohm load
4ohm DVC in parallel = 2ohm load
4ohm DVC in series = 8ohm load

Either I don't understand you or you are confused.

Also why would start two threads at the same time about the same question?

thanx for the help there, i don't mean to be mean or be a show off, i get new info and do some neat things sometimes and like to tell of learning experiences. it seems you and i are never going to get along.
I don't get along with people that come on here saying they are some great installer and have won this or that crap.

When the info that you ask for is so basic and you should know it if you are even a basic installer.

I am not an installer, ever worked at a shop ect. and I at least know the basics.

BTW. I am not the only one you have problems with when you started running off at the mouth.

Now you are here advertising your product in thread, which seems to be the only reason you are here. Cause its never been to learn from point of view.

they were very good and because i used so much dynamat, the mid bass was clean and rich. i had the same jl 3 ways in the 1987 corolla which i received 3 1st place trophies in sound quality for and one score sheet was at 98 % a flat response. also no active processors! Though i like the alpine piece.
I can go on and on with your ****. I can even show where you used to say RF is complete CRAP, junk ect. OOOPS and now you are talking about running.
You had no clue what DLS was.

ON and ON and ON.

You created all this hostility toward you by the way you decided to come on DIYMA and crap yourself stated. So yes you came of as a jerk and you got a jerk reaction. Can't expect people to act cordially if you have acted other wise.

I am always whiling to learn something new and want to like you its just you never seem to learn. I will try and be nicer to you and answer your basic install questions in a nicer fashion.

genxx is just a angry little man. alot of rf is crap and so is zapco and many other brands. you are like those people that think all songs from your favorite artist are great. your a very empty spirit, i feel sorry for you and forgive you genxx.
Go spoon the with Tspence I know you guys must hang out.
t spence? so this is your game. wow thats it? you maybe are not all bad. after all your living in a beautiful place in the winter. we don't ever have seasons. what does it take to get it through your head that you don't know everthing and neither does anyone else here. i ask questions because i wanna know. you must be like a horse with blinders on. so when i post something just do the world a favor and shut your ****ing mouth if you have nothing good to say oKLAHOMA boy
...........
At least call him a "Sooner" :p

Most like smaller boxes, but to each their own [ needs a bigger box when you do this ];)

Yeah , hook up one coil if you like [ kinda like disconnecting some spark plugs on a V8 or disconnecting one of your dual carbuerators...]

If it sounds good but still a lil loud [ throw a blanket over it ;) ]

Usually guys are trying to get the most out of their amp when they post this :p

Yeah, I want to wire it at 2 ohms by handicapping my sub

I actually answered this guy in his other dupe post. But, he must have wanted to pull out some raw faggotry instead, so I dont think he needs our help anymore.
