This post is purely for informational purposes to anyone wondering why they were charged for import duties / customs fees by MiniDSP. Or, for anyone considering buying one from MiniDSP since they will encounter the same issue.

They hit me for $108! This was unexpected as I hadn't read the fine print as supplied by @Mad Scientist. It appears it's luck of the draw though as others have evaded the customs fees. In fact I've ordered quite a bit globally and this was the only time I had to pay customs.

It seemed rather odd that multiple people were stating they were charged duty / customs fees, so I did some digging and found out why.
MiniDSP likely does this intentionally to keep their product pricing appear lower than it actually is.

We had this conversation in another thread. I've never had to pay customs fee's from Minidsp. I've gotten two if these specifically and about 20 of their products over the years.
As I said, luck of the draw. Apparently you are twice as lucky as the OP and myself.

I ordered the 8x12 from parts express so I didn’t have to worry about it, I knew what I was going to pay because they add all of that into their price. Then I did the upgrade from MiniDsp, and because it is just a download, no shipping or duties. I saved a little money in the end, and no suprises.

Yes, I saw Parts Express has it for sale at $1,014.98. Now I understand why. Isn’t right Minidsp can take the extra step to provide customers with a real price based on their address. Instead of been hit with a surprise once it arrives. The whole experience has left me not wanting to use their products. It is what it is.
The DSP is still available. I also listed it on eBay for more money to cover the fees.

How is it MiniDSPs fault in any way? Many of us, myself included, have never had to pay fees. It sounds more like US customs are the ones who are causing a problem, randomly selecting some to pay fees and not others.
The reason Parts Express charge more, is they are a business, likely ordered a number of units/products from MiniDSP and so were charged import fees. So, they charge more to recoup those fees as well as giving the customer the convenience of ordering from a US company.
Ultimately, not trying to derail your thread, good luck with the sale. I'm sure it'll go quickly.

I accept responsibility for not reading their policies. How often does one read policies for online purchases though. It is what it is. The DSP is still available.

It's your countries policy that has you in knots. Minidsp can't possibly know which customer is going to get whacked for fee's.
However you can know that if it's more than $800 you are subject to import fee's as that is the policy of where you live.
So maybe the trick is to purchase the V2 and then order the software upgrade separately.
