Have Sony's head units gotten any better in the past years? (xplode era left a bad taste in my mouth) . I have the chance to get a mid line Sony single DIN head unit (Bluetooth, dual usb , remote, satellite radio) with steering column remote, wireless remote, and CD changer basically for free. A friend of mine got a new car and she can't figure it out, so she wants to trade for the 15 year old Kenwood unit in my truck which is easier to use (she doesn't care about features, just listening to the radio).

They are as good as any similarly priced unit. I used a Sony deck in my car for a couple years. Wasn't in a performance system, just something to listen to CD's on while I worked on my stereo. Worked for me.

I have liked every Sony I have used. Including the Xplod I got at the junkyard for $20 for my beater.

The newer ones seem to like to beep when you turn them off though? Drives me nuts. But it only does it on the speaker outputs, not the RCA outputs, so it hasn't been an issue in my one car.

They're "alright". I ran an xplode years ago and wasn't too impressed. However, I'm now running a DSX-S200X, which I've been content with for the past few years.

You can turn that feature off on most off the new ones, or run an external amp to bypass the feature if the one you get is older and can't turn off the warning/reminder to remove the faceplate.
