Thinking about using a high quality sound deadener to control some heat in the shifter / transmission tunnel on my C6 Vette. Has anybody tried using a deadener in this way before? Thanks!

Vibration dampers aren't great thermal treatments. The argument is made that the foil layer reflects heat but the adhesive interferes with this and a radiant barrier really needs an airspace to be effective. When I'm trying to control radiant heat as part of noise reduction treatment I integrate plane radiant barrier foil - the same stuff you'd line an attic with - into the barrier layers. On a floor where I'd normally use 1/4" CCF followed by MLV, I'll use 2 layers of 1/8" with the radiant foil between them.

If I weren't going for noise reduction I'd use a dedicated heat treatment.
