I've decoupled speakers like that before - it cuts down on any resonance from door panels/support structure of the car door.
But if I'm honest, my door panels seem to resonate around 250hz, and It feels really good on my leg while I'm driving, so undid the decoupling mod.

I used adhesive cork to for my attempt, not felt.

I never noticed any difference in "reflections" nor standing waves. Just fewer harmonic modes with the rest of my car panels.

Those mods definitely make a difference with light paper full range cones at moderate listening levels. Very noticeable on small 3" drivers that don't have big openings in the basket. I have given all of my home speaker projects that treatment. I used non-hardening strip caulk for the basket and some felt or packing foam on the back of the magnet. Never tried wrapping the basket in felt though.

I think at the listening levels of a car, with road noise and sub optimum enclosures, you'd be really challenged to pick out any difference in sound with these mods.
