I joined here awhile ago but had disappeared for the last year. I blew a speaker in my work car, a 2011 Lincoln Town Car L. So I bought 2 sets of cheap Massive Audio VX68s. I figured I needed an amp. Well, I visited a shop in Marlborough, MA that actually still sells car audio and bought(accidentally) a JL XD400/4. That should be enough for that.

But, I want to start tinkering with my play car. I have an '09 CTS-V. And while it cost me a pretty penny, I don't have unlimited funds for the stereo. Actually, I don't have much funds at all.

First off, I want to find replacement speakers. But I don't want to do any fab work and I want to take advantage of the large front woofer placement. 9" in the doors. The dash speakers are 3.5". So I'd like to go with an 8" or 9" woofer. But I don't want a coax in the dash so I was thinking of a midrange like the Dynaudio D52 or the Morel Elate 9 3-way. I'd mount a small midrange along with a tweeter in each dash location.

What would you do?

ya but its a GM..
And you drive what? Sounds like you've been beaten by more than a few GM cars.

To the OP, badass car. I'm going to enjoy another year of no car payments and the CTS-V is at the top of my list of new cars.

"beaten" ?? not quite sure what you mean by that but if you mean raced on the streets then yes as there is legal limits to drive.

all that power is useless in this application.

i drive 89 escort... not
who gives a **** what who drives. build quality of gm is garbage regardless. i use to work in there factory here and manufacture parts for them. They are less quality controlled product then the majority of top manufacturers in the world.

awesome car.... always wanted to try summit point but being in Ohio it's a long drive. I have only been to Putnam Park & Beaver Run... I hope to make Mid Ohio for a school this coming year....

Yea... most GM cars are complete crap (I live in a GM town & own several GM vehicles) but the CTS-v's are the exception. Top Gear did a test on the CTS-v just a few weeks ago, comical watching the CTS-v wagon beat a $300K Ferarri :)

Sweet car... no clue on the stereo stuff

I've run Putnam Park a couple of times in my '04 CTS-V. Being in MA, we have a dearth of really good tracks. Lime Rock is expensive and NHMS is tiny and brutal. Summit is about as far as I can go and still get home in time to get up for work the next day. Monticello would be nice to run and is less than 4 hours away, but they've gone almost fully private and won't be renting out, as far as I know...

^^^badass caddy. Love it.

What are you going to do for a h/u? Isn't that the trickier thing to worry about?
Sadly, I'm too anal to have a cut up dash, visually. Everything is so integrated, I want to keep the h/u stock and replace everything else. I still need to figure out if I want to get an MS8 or bit one or something like that.

That's what i was getting at too.

Just going by memory, the dash looks really good from the factory and I wouldn't think that an aftermarket deck would integrate too easily or attractively.

Luckily, there's alot of guys on here with experience using the ms8's and audisson bit ones to help you out. I've personally never tried integrating one with a factory system though

Too much power is never useless. My toy has 900+ hp at the wheels and I'm about to add another 100 or so and shed a couple thousand pounds.
There's always a place for it...sounds like you're just a little jealous of the OP's sweet ass Caddi.

You still did not answer the question. What do you drive that's so superior to a V?

I think the ms8 is an excellent choice for this car to retain the factory looks and get great sound. It seems like lately I've seen a lot of $200-$300 aftermarket speakers that don't sound as good as the premium factory speakers they replaced. They might take more power but not sound as good. Imo you need to look at the mid level and higher speakers to make a significant improvement in sound over stock.

The Bose isn't bad as far as factory systems go. The Bose in my '04 CTS-V was downright awful. But, per typical Bose, the lows are underwhelming and the highs, nonexistant...
