I have a friend who needed either a line out converter or a new amp with speaker level inputs. He decided to go a different route, he just cut open some old rca cables and spliced them to his speaker cables-and it seems to work fine! I'm just wondering, is this going to somehow blow up his amp in one way or another, for putting too much thru the low level input. He does have his gain turned down very low now, so maybe that compensates somehow, but I just have this funny feeling he's going to smell smoke soon!

It would depend on the input sensitivity of the amp.

Its an older Sony xm amp, I know those were supposed to be decent amps (certainly compared to the "xplod in your car" series) but I'd assume it has the "usual" voltage range for an auto amp-isn't it usually like .5v to 6 or 8 v?
