I have been into high end car audio for about 30yrs now!,ya i'm getting old lol!(back in 86' I had one of the 1st cars in my area w/big amps,x-overs,eq's and 10"subs,Alpine cassette Hu lol, connected to those monster sized Jbl T545(6x9's!) all in a custom painted 70' Mach1) Well for a short time I felt way ahead of my time, even though I lived in a ******* area lol!(small towns are always behind the times!) However over the yrs I fell behind on things(technology) I made a 2nd attempt in the late 90's on a build using a Jvc Hu,RF Symmetry setup, Mb Quart spkrs(German line),Us Amps,PPi pro mos amps ect,now trying to do it again but im really tryin to do it right this time back then I didn't really know much about time alignment, speakers being on/off axis(still don't on that lol!)cancellations ect what I do have going for me is a good ear(pro level guitarist/sound guy ect)which really only required me to pay attention to clearity ect as most live gigs are mono!! ok enough on my back ground I would really like to hear from some Sq guys on a cpl things to bring my system up to par(or to squeeze the most outta what I have available?? 1st off I wanna know whether to run my $750pr. of Polk Sr6500's of the passive X-overs supplied or to run them active off my Alpine H701 processor/Rux setup?? reason I ask is that I had soo soo many companies incl Pg tell me that it wasn't the speaker so much that made the set so expensive but the matched X-over's that came w/them?? infact a cpl companies went so far as to tell me that their spkrs would sound like **** w/o their passive X-overs incl Pioneer when I tried to purchase their Stage 4 Ts-062prs(2" 5/8)mids infact Crutchfield told me that they were pretty much usless w/o the matching Dex P99 Hu(the stage4 copper cased plain looking one that brings a grand used!) Yep told me they would be useless w/o that Hu!!!! well I bought a Pr. anyways(can't say enuff about them, these Kickass!!!!) Btw way this is all going in a Mits 3000gt(same as a Stealth) I was also wondering if I could run like a pr of 6.5 Mid/Subs in rear where 6x9's used to be located beside ea. side of rear seat(for fill)say 80hz-300ish(fatten up and bring the bass guitar/drums forward)along w/a Pr. of 12 Subs in rear hatch area firing straight up at glass in rear hatch or would their be cancellation or other issues?? also thought of having a cpl of 6.5 or 8's mid/sub facing up along w/a 12 sub?? I just so hate systems that sound like there are 2 separate systems playing at once(mids/highs and the sub thumping like it doesn't belong?? I notice things others may not? if a bass player was chugging on a low E note(or lowest note on a normal bass) it would be picked up by the sub(rear of car)then when he moves up the neck to a higher register it moves to front of the sound stage!! or same with the drum kit having the kick drum being picked up and coming out of the sub and the rest of the kit(snare/toms) appearing to be coming out of the front stage of the car?? I don't have room to fit any subs up front! what I have is an Mechman 240amp alt,Alpine w910 Hu,Alpine H701/Rux, i had all M series PG amps(incl the rt66/Octane Le.,Us Amps Usa400!(changing to diff amp setup)The Pioneer Ts-062Prs mids in dash(firing straight up at the glass)at say 200hz-? the 6.75 Polk Sr6500's components in the lower doors(tweet mounted just above short distance)as i wanted to keep the higher end together for staging(best as possible anyways) not sure what to put in rear 6x9 spots?? this is what i thought of? the 7x10" 3way bi amp Focals,6.5 Mid/Subs,Cdt 6x9 gold series Es069? Mid/Sub was leaning toward the Focal 7x10's as the can handle a fair amount of bottom end and if Bi-amp i could turn the Mid/Tweet way down for just a bit of rear fill?? big concerns are cancellations ect? and gotta admit after all these yrs i don't know crap about spkrs being on/off axis?? now a member did mention a trick with the subs(add about 10" distance in time alignment)claims it tricks subs into appearing farther up front??
1 last thing? im running Mids in dash,6.75 doors, rears?and subs what would be the cleanest best bang for the buck used amps to go with(i know there are tons but some ideas?) since i have the Alpine H701 would it be better to avoid amps w/built in X-overs ect? amps ive used in past PPi pro mos/arts,high end old PG's,US amps subs(though power hungry)Rf dsm's/punch as far as music i listen to mostly Rock/metal incl bands like Rush(want my music to obviously get loud, but crystal clear as well!! but i do hate when my 19yr old kid brings his friends over with $500 systems that hit harder than my $8,000 system(of course they know nothing of Sq.,but it still sucks trying to constantly explain it! ok 1 more question i was really looking into one of those Focal Kx $1900 subs as they can be picked up for $500ish used on Ebay just wondering if they were all that? or over rated as far as sound quality plus they are only 400w rms on a 13" sub? but its tempting for $500 would i notice much between that and say a Sundown/an Alpine type-X?? as a pair of those can be had on Ebay for $300($375ish ea. new!) sorry so long!
Btw my number is (814)493-7199 would like to hear any comments that may help?? also i text slow as ****(why i left my number lol!)

I'd suggest running active so you can time align each speaker. If you want a system that images this is almost a prerequisite unless the speakers are right next to each other (think home speaker). Tuning an active system can be difficult and become addicting. Worth it in the long run though.

Doing some reading on here is a great place to get some good info. Look at the list of useful diy threads here

I wouldn't even mess with the rears to start with. A 2 or 3 way with a sub can sound amazing. I wish I was a little closer to cranberry (I'm in Altoona) so you could hear my car. It's not tuned great but can give you an idea of how a car with no rears can sound. I know there is a get together in Ohio not to far from you in a few months, going to this or a sq compitition can give you some good ideas. I learned a lot from hitting up a few shows.
