Hey everyone...my cousin just gave me some subs and an amp...so after being told it was a 1000watt amp with two tweleve inch W6s...i got a 4 gauge wiring kit to get ready...i finally picked them up after months because hes a pretty busy guy...but the amp says 500/1 and the subs im not so sure they are W6s now...anyway to tell without taking it apart?

The problem with visually diagnosing those is that almost all JL's subs from that era looked pretty close to identical from the front. The only ones that were paper cone were the IB series and the W0, W1, W3, and W6 series were all poly cone with a standard poly dustcap. Also, W6's and W3's were available with dual 6 ohm voicecoils so measuring the external impedance still would not be definite.

If you do not feel like removing 1 sub from the box to visually verify then I agree with the poster that suggested install & enjoy your free equipment. :)
