I'm laying out a system for my 69 Camaro, and I'm down to choosing 12" subs. For the amps, I'll be using a pair of PPI A600's, which have the following specs;
150w x 2 @ 4ohms
300w x 2 @ 2ohms
600w x 1 bridged @ 4ohms

For the most bang, I want to bridge the amps for 600 watts to each sub. This means the sub should have either a single 4ohm vc or dual 2ohm vcs. To me, this kind of rules out most of the common contenders like JBL WGTi's, JL W6's (W7's are too expensive), etc...

So, after doing some reading here, I've somewhat narrowed down the field to;
SSA Icon 12's or Fi Q 12's
They both seem to be well built, well featured drivers and they are close in price, which brings me to my dilemma; which to choose?

If anyone has experience with either or both, please give me your thoughts, and I'm also open to other choices.

I listen to mostly rock and contemporary jazz and am interested in a driver that is very musical but has authority when needed.

Also, if you know of a reputable installer in the Atlanta area that could build a sub enclosure, please post contact info...

JBL WGTi will work. That 3 ohms at a parallel scheme will go up in an enclosure

Sundown SA-12

Whew the list could go on for days. Lots of good subs out there. Enclosure is going to be the determining factor in sound though.

Heard the Dayton mentioned a bunch... is it really that good?

Any other suggestions, or comments on the SSA vs Fi?

Here's a shot of my car... still in build mode but hoping to have it completed soon!

I believe Fi might make the SSA. Heard that somewhere. Could be wrong.

Honestly it's just bass. That's easy.

Yes, for the money the Daytons are that good. Especially give the 10's a look.
Small ported enclosure tuned around 30 hertz will yield great bass.

Truly, as long as the enclosure is right, any sub you choose will do a good job.

Thanks for the input cubdenno...

Anyone else care to chime in?

I think I'm going to add the Morel Ultimo SC 12's to my list of contenders. I've heard nothing but good about them.

How much room do you want to sacrifice for your enclosure(s)? What is your budget?
Without having measured, it looks like I can get a fairly decent sized enclosure for two 12's and still leave room for the amp rack and some small luggage for weekend getaways... not sure if that answers your question.

I went ahead and ordered a pair of Morel Ultimo SC 12-4's.

Still looking for an installer in ATL if anyone has a recommendation...

i've had a '69 for a number of years.(not nearly as nice as yours)
they're pretty small, 2 ultimo12's should be serious in there.

you wouldn't happen to have an SS hood you want to get rid of?
