SEM makes a texture coating specifically made for automotive use. Not sure if the Krylon is a generalist product or not. After doing a few coats of texture, use a high count sand paper, like 1000 grit wet to knock down any fuzzies, then shoot the color matched color coat on. YOu should be set.
One other thing, my NAPA didnt have it on hand, but ordered it from the warehouse within 2 days, so make sure you speak to a knowledgeable person there since a new dude might not know what you are talking about.
1) do very thin coats, and sand with 400 grit in between coats--untill youget the design you wnat to mathc your stock grain
if you do it that way it does look very close to stock
I made the mistake of NOT doing this on the main pillar parts so I have to sand them down and start all over arrrgh
3) and Id recommed a VERY thin coat of primer to make sure you can see any indentions you may have missed in sanding. the texture will cover most small indentions, but not much larger than a sandpaper mark
oh and practice as the spray pattern from the knobs take some getting use to
On things like A pillars, you can easily retexture the entire piece, this way its uniform in pattern...
