Hi,

I am in the market looking for a new SQ build for my Hilux Dual cab 2021.
I am planning to use the two JL sub that I have in the build. But for the rest of the components I am looking at options.
Plan to run 3 way active , I don't think I need a rear fill in the dual cab. Worried if the JL will fit the rear behind the seats., and if I should use two. Anyone has any experience with Hilux? I have the JL 12TW3. Any other suggestions if I have to look at any shallower options?

Is the DSP integrated amps a better option or should I use DSP and amp separately. If I have to power the 3 way active fronts and two rear sub is there any option or get a DSP integrated 5 channel amp and another amp for the SUB?

For the JL what would be a recommended amp.

Thanks B.

If you are in the I would love to know how you got the Hilux

No in the US. In UAE they just launched it in 2020. The truck was always there, but before was sold only for commercial with a different engine. The consumer version they are offering here now is the V6 4 ltr engine.

DSP integrated amp might help save some space, installation headache & complexity. You might be able to do that in the HU as well if you can't find a suitable amp. How's your budget?

Oh, and we'll need pics of this Hilux :)
Sure will try to make a good build post :)

Long time lurking 2018 DC Hilux owner here located in the Netherlands.
I'm running Kenwood double DIN head unit, Helix DSP.3, JL HD900/5 powering SB Acoustics SB17MFC35-4 midbass and SB29RDNC-C000-4 tweeters in the sail pods. Sub is a JL CP108LG-W3v3 8" microsub.

The sub box just fits behind the seats. its really tight and the seat bolts really squeeze the seat down on it. The output is also quite limited and I'm looking to change this out for something a bit better. It will probably be a Sundown SD4-10 in a Basser 15L enclosure Link. You may be able to fit one of these on each side behind the seats, but then space to mount other items would be quite restricted.

I'm also thinking about going 3-way up front - probably a Scanspeak mid and tweeter, also changing out the midbasses... Will probably start with the midrange ini the A-pillars and change the others as i get round to it! I'll probably get a new JL HD amp for the midbasses, and use the existing for the mids, tweets and sub.

For me, the midbass is a bit weak, but I think thats just my tune after hearing what others say about these mids.

I dont really have a good reference as to how it should sound though!

Thats why I was thinking of the DSP integrated amps. I checked with Zpaco and they suggested if possible get the amps and dsp separate.
BTW you can also do underseat the amps. I think there is enough space below the front driver and passenger seat.
Well planning the build now, In thailand next week, so Hope to see a lot of Hilux there and get some ideas.

For the sub, I think the 10 inch is the best fit. I was planning to use my old JL 12tw3, but looks like it will be too tight. How is SD4 compared to TW3?

I was thinking of putting them under the seats, but then it would be very low for water crossings (I still want to use the Hilux for Hilux things!).

Im not sure on the output of the SD4 vs the JL. The choice of the Sundown would be more to match the 500W coming from the HD amp. They would both fit well within this enclosure if you wanted a simple plug and play!
Ah no worries of the water for me, I live in the desert :p

I am also looking for a good amp for the JL. Need something at 700W 4 ohms , planning a dual sub if space allows.

I was running a GZ Nuclear before for those, bridged and 700W was perfect, but its too big, looking for something compact .

I'm currently installing a full system in my Hilux. I've chosen to go with a single JL 13tw5, I got the box custom made in Australia. I've just test fitted and it's exact. There is only space for 2 amps, so you're going to want a DSP amp.

Like I said, I'm currently installing with what limited time I have everyday. It will most likely take me a while ☺. My components are as follows:

Alpine Halo 11 HU, Audiocontrol D6.1200, Audiocontrol LC1.800, Audiofrog GB60/GB15 for front, Morel Elate Ti MW6 (bandpass 30-300), JL 13tw5.

I'll post pics when I get it all sorted out
So you are running a two way. I was also looking at the audicontrol. Do you have the design or any pics of the custom box? I am thinking worst case have the DSP under the front seat. But trying to figure out the amps, I am planning 3 way active front stage so looks like I may need 3 amps.

I've got a 2019 hilux sr5 double cab. 3 way front and 10" behind back seat.
The front is,
Focal flax tweeters in factory sail locations,
Flax 6.5" in doors that have a Lot of sound deadening,
Scan speak 15m discovery midranges in custom kicks,
Focal P25FS shallow sub behind rear seat in an 18l ported box,
A pioneer prs-a900 amp under the front passenger seat powering the tweeters and midrange,
A focal pfx 5.1200 behind back seat for the midbass sub and rear speakers(focal factory fitment 6.5's),
Head unit is a Kenwood dmx9720xds,
Dsp is minidsp 8x12dl behind back seat.

There is very little room behind the rear seat. I can take some photos of anything if you want.
Thanks, Thats the type of build I am looking for . Planning to have a three way front and a sub in the back.

I was also looking at the audison apbx active sub box they seem very compact.

If you could share pics of the build would be great.

I had a question about the air vents in the rear panel, yours seems to be covered, are these causing any issues?

I tried everything a subwoofer can't seem to fit in the rear 😔 I have the 2021 model.

Even audison apbx 10 won't fit. The only option seem to be apbx 8.

I have also seen this;
It all says fits 2015 and above The above one even says for the 12-inch JL. I wonder how. My installer said he tried all options.

I am not sure if 2015 and above is all same space behind the seat or something changed in bwn.

I just sent them an email. But the price they have posted on the website seems crazy. I just need the box.

I have sent them an email. Will need to see the cost with shipping. But $1000 for a sub box, isn't that a bit ridiculous?

I got the quote Aud $1450 for the whole package excluding shipping that's still a lot for me.

I am now looking at underseat options. Maybe use a jacker and lift the seat a bit and add some shallow 8 inch. Came across the skar vd 8.

Yes you are correct, there is no way to put the subs behind the seat. So I went ahead and put in the Nuclear amp which has filled up the whole space almost :p. Will share some pics soon.

For now I have the attached.

I finally got two subs under seat. It's the Skar Audio VD-8 D2 dual 2-ohm. For now I am each amp directly to amp in series, and my amp is 660w at 4-ohm. I will be changing this to 2-ohm and the amp power at 2-ohm is 1200W. Each sub is 400w

Attached some pics and box details; pardon the drawing :p

The passenger side seat needed to be lifted a bit. The driver seat has the height option, with the height kept at highest its fine. The passenger seat doesn't have any height adjustment, the sub goes in fine but the lift was done to make the seat movement smooth.
