Tuning for optimum quality

Tuning the DRZ9255 in a 3 way with Rainbow Profi Kicks, Image Dynamics IQ10, Butler TDB-475 for the upfronts and a Diamond Audio for the Sub. I have no source for an RTA so it's tune by ear for me. Probably better this way. I'd like a bit more umph in the lower range, say upper bass/lower midrange. Question is, what are these frequencies? 250hz--500hz--1000. Where would be a good place to start.

I would start at 500hz and gradually lower the xo point when tunning.

Tunning by RTA may not fit to your preference, hence tunning by ears is best. But if you want to go to competition, RTA is required.
lower midrange carries a lot of vocal energy...are you sure you want boost there?

the best way to find out is boosting and cutting various frequencies with music you are familiar with. it will give you a good idea of what each range sounds like when boosted or cut.

here's an interactive chart to get you started anyway:

I'd start with a CD loaded with 1/3rd octave test tones. Step through the tones until you hear a freq that is in the range you want to fiddle with. THEN look at the chart to see what freq this is. Chances are its 80 to 150Hz.

I play some music you are very familiar with, and start playing with the EQ until you are happy with how good it sounds. Do you or someone you know have an iphone...RTA problem solved for cheap.
i'm also having problem with tuning my drz. i'm currenty running it as 2 way active, drz set on standard mode. highs are lotus rt25f, mids are 6.5 focal polyk, and low is one jl 10w3 powered by an alpine 450 (50x4 + 200w). i dropped everything to 18db/oct and put the xover points for the sub at 31.5-80 and tweets at ?-20k. somehow i don't think the parametric eq setting are set right for me. the tweets are singing, but it's still seems very dull. moved from focal tn45 tweets, which i seem to enjoy the metal tweets better than the lotus which are silk. any drz owners have suggestions on parametric eq settings?

What's up with the iphone? I don't know anyone with one but just how does it work as an RTA?
There are inexpensive Apps available thru the Itunes Store. Octave band analyzer, Rta, Spl to name a few.
