tweeter replacement...

1894 Views 19 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  keithace
I recently built a-pillar tweeter pods to house the tweeter from an eclipse 8062 set of components. And of course after a week or two of playing perfect i fried the driver side tweeter. I would like to do a cheap replacement (of course) or would it be worth it to try and track down a matching tweeter that they dont make anymore. or maybe someone has one they want to part with. I am running the front stage of the car with the front channels of a fosgate 551x so they arent getting a ton of power. I am also using the crossover that came with the component set. I've looked for the specs on the crossover but can't find any info on crossover points so i can try and find a tweeter that can match up with the crossover i am currently using....did i lose anyone?

also...has anyone used these from parts xpress? or something similiar as a replacement? Parts Express:Dayton ND16FA-6 5/8" Neodymium Dome Tweeter

YOu could try either the SEAS NEo Alum or

SEAS NEO TExtile

Or the LPG ALUM tweeter, all available at Madisound.

All 3 are great performers for under $60 per pair and are reviewed on this site.
thanks...i went and checked those out...they look like a good deal...and not too bad on the pricing...

second question...does anyone know the specs on the crossover that came with the eclipse 8062 component set? or should i just ditch it with the new tweeter?
I have mint LPG 25NFA Fabric tweeters I would let go for $40 but I do not know if that crossover is configured for 4, 6, or 8 ohm tweeters. The LPGs are 8 ohms.

you dont have the crossovers for them i take it...let me go check those out and i will PM you...
if i get those tweeters maybe somene can help me design a crossover for them....does it need to be a 6, 12, 18 or 25 db slope? (i am aware how the slopes work and that it takes multiple caps and coils to make it happen) (i have my RTTI book around here somewhere :) )
I actually have brand new S6.0X crossovers which were the crossovers from the Diamone Hex S600 sets. My original ones got wet and rusted. I ordered these straight from Diamond a few years ago and never ended up using them. Someone in Classifieds is selling an identical set. I think he has the crossover freqs in there. I can do a little research and let you know. It would save you building them and probably be just as cheap if not cheaper.

I can load pics on photobucket for you if you are interested. The tweeters and crossovers are both mint.

I will make you a good deal on the LPGs and the crossovers together if you like.

please load me up some pics...thanks...
I will load pics when I get home. The best I can find is the crossover is 3.8K, which matches what I thought they were. I did run the DA-6.0 set back in the day. Really that is a good crossover freq for these tweeters. They do not sound good below 3.15K anyway. As I recall those eclipse use Vifa paper coated mids right? They should work well with the LPGs.
i still wish i knew the specs on the crossovers that came with the eclipse...
Yeah that sucks not knowing the crossover freq. But if you are still interested here are some pics of the LPGs and 6.0x Crossovers.

much obliged...

give me a chance to let my income tax return hit my account and i will take those tweeters...less than a week...

i contacted eclipse about the specs for those crossovers...
why dont you like the tweeters...i will take them...but i would like to hear what you think about them...i will have a fosgate 551x (70 watts) going to them...

i dont know...you tell me... :)
still no response from eclipse....grrr...

no one knows the specs for these components?
Ummmm, how are you even going to begin to back up the LPGs working with that particular crossover?

Even if you manage to match up impedances, which the LPG is an 8 ohm tweeter, you still have mismatches due to variances in the impedance curve.

The chances that those tweeters and crossovers will work together is VERY slim.
i dont know anything about the eclipse...i am bet they probably wont be compatible...but its worth a check...isnt it?

(i am on the phone with them now...apparently these are the holy grail or something...even the tech guy is having a hard time finding it)

(and now he wants to fax them to me...they dont have them on PDF...dammit)
the specs...

Midrange is 6.5
Fs=59 Hz
VAS=4.7
Impedance = 4 ohm
Re= 3
Qts= 0.43
Qes=4
Qms=3

Twtr.=3/4 Soft cloth Dome
Fs= 1790 Hz
Impedance=6 ohms
Re=4.6 ohms

Its not going to be optimal, but if these are the crossovers

Eclipse 8062 Crossover ONE ONLY *USED* - eBay (item 220373644145 end time Apr-05-09 14:54:58 PDT)

that lpad pot will help with getting the tweeter level right at least.

Just find a 6 ohm tweeter and luckily, it looks like that set uses these tweeters with the vifa classic woofers.

Vifa D26NC05 1" Textile Dome Autosound Tweeter from Madisound

So actually, you may be in luck.
those are the correct crossovers...those dont look like too bad of a tweeter...

thanks for the help...

(i still wish i knew the specs on the crossovers...for arguments sake :) )

i PM'ed a guy about eclipse replacements....we'll see...
