Ok if you have been following this thread...
http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1162

Then you know what this post is about.
To keep things simple for NPDANG do not post more than 2 tweeters you would like to see tested...

The ones that get most interest would be tested 1st, and the rest would follow in the same manner... Keep the cost under $100 for a single unit.

NPDANG... if you feel there is a better way to make this work, I don't think anyone will object in which way you want to proceed with the idea... after all you will be doing all the work...

Here are my entries...
Vifa D27TG05
Dayton RS28

Well heres mine:

-Dayton RS28, would love to hear some stuff about this driver.
-Moderately priced Ribbon (i'm not sure which as i don't know much about ribbons, but i'm sure others could be intrested as well for a ribbon type at a very affordable cost).

one tweeter i am curious about since they brag so much about it is the new modular tweeter from cdt. i figure its prob a variation of a vifa but the one that comes with 3 different domes, the drt26. i just think it would be interesting since it has silk, aluminum, and titanium.

also the dayton mentioned above the 28 would be great to i have though about using that one.

My choice: http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=4671630.26597&pid=1637

Specs: http://www.tymphany.com/scanspeak/data/d2904_710000e.htm

No, its definately not cheap @ $269. But not completely unaffordable either. Ken Kantor (DST/Tymphany) stated that the engineers at Scan Speak were tasked with coming up with the best tweeter they could build, using all their knowledge, price no object. The result was the SS R2904/700000 ring radiator. This is the domed version that I believe to be superior .
Is it worth $269? Dunno. But it would get my vote to see just how good.

Cheers,

AJ

p.s. note that their new AirCir tweeter is a dome, not a phase plug design

Not completely disregarding your choice AJ, but wow, is that the price for a single? or a pair.....and i thought Ribbons were on up there in pricing, but thats just rediculous, i'd hope for what there asking that it would be more than worth its price. Wow.

Gotta say its one Beautiful driver though.....

I'd also like to have this driver tested... but I thought that keeping the price under $100 would be a good exercise to get everyone started... Once everyone feels comfortable with the idea, I think it would be EZ to sell some of the cheaper drivers & once those funds are in the amount we all put in for the high dollar drivers would be less...

Sort of like the old saying... "saving the "best" (or shall we say the expensive) for last."

Hi Raul,

yes, I agree with you, this should be like the 10th driver tested, not the 1st.
I'm with you on the lower price models that represent much better value. On the same token however, if you don't have a "reference" as to how good, "good" can be, exactly how would one determine "value"? So eventually I like to see something like this tested :) .

Demon, FYI that's EACH  .

Well AJ I think that before we go forth and label anything regardless of price as referrence, that we should begin to develop a good database of tests results to be able to compare drivers... I think in this manner a reference by which all can be measured against will arise.

The idea is to have the tests available for all the see, whatever arises as the referrence in terms of performance & value will take care of itself as the results become available.

In the end, I would love to see all that we can afford be tested. Specially the Scan you mentioned ;) However, for now, so that everyone gets the hang of this & to build trust, keeping the costs down to minimize our financial contribution seems logical and not directly related to "what ever we think is a good value or reference so lets have it tested 1st" kind of thing...

NPDANG has a life outside of this forum... He already showed interest in the idea & this all equates to time away from his personal life...

I am willing to wait as long as he needs... if this flies... weather sooner or later, it will provide a good DB of test well worth the wait...
