Yes, Clarion follows the CEA-2006 Standard. This is what it tested at in the Performance Auto & Sound Review that was linked at the top of the post:

Testing
We set the amp up on the bench and connected it to a pair of Kinetik KIPS12-80 power supplies and our bank of ceramic load resistors. Power measurements are outlined below in Figure 1. You can see that the amp is quite efficient at full power. It also exceeded rated power at both 4Ω and 2Ω specs in stereo.

Figure 1 – Power Output
Load ___Supply____Supply Current___Power_____Efficiency___1/3 Efficiency
4Ωx2___14.24 V______37 A______188.9 Watts_____72%_________44%
2Ωx2___14.11 V______68 A______321.3 Watts_____68%_________41%
4Ωx1___14.11 V______68 A______576.0 Watts_____60%_________44%

Had we been able to supply the amp with the extra 0.28V required to hit 14.4, it would have met its rated 600W mark when bridged without any problem. Worth noting, these efficiency figures exceed that of some Class D amps we have tested with respect to the full power numbers. The 1/3 Power numbers are about 25% better than most conventional Class AB amps we have reviewed.

We followed up the power measurements with frequency response tests. Figure 2 shows the amps frequency and phase response. The amp played flat down to 7.59Hz at -3dB and 13.7Hz at -1dB. On the top end it played out to a very good 84.7kHz at -3dB and 47kHz at -1dB. Damping factor was excellent at 391. Finally, I checked channel imbalance. The amp showed a mere 0.15 dB variation at our test setting – excellent!

We set the amp up in our reference system with a Clarion DRZ9255 source unit and Polk Audio LSi9 bookshelf speakers. We loaded up the well-worn Focal Demonstration Disc 1 and Spanish Harlem by Rebecca Pidgeon. Tonally, this amp was able to transmit all the delicacy of Rebecca’s voice without any major ill-effects – there was a slight emphasis on the letter e in the word garden at the end of the chorus. The soundstage was big and imaging was great. Naima by Thom Rotella showed excellent instrument placement. There was an ever so slight emphasis in the bass that gave kick drums some extra authority. That being said, it wasn’t un-natural in any way – just emphasized.

Conclusion
Given its efficiency and high damping factor, not only would this make a great amplifier for your front stage components, but with about 600W of power on tap, it’s also a great choice for a subwoofer. Choose a nice high-end 12-incher and you are going to hear dynamics and extension like few Class D amps can reproduce. Clarion was obviously thinking the same thing as they thought it prudent to provide a jack for their optional remote level control called the BC2.

We like the simple but effective cosmetics of this amp. It features a totally concealed heat-sink, a brushed aluminum top panel with a carbon fiber Clarion logo (that can be rotated to suit your particular installation) and side and end-panels made out of injection molded plastic. Tuners take note – this isn’t a heavy amp in any way, and showed no signs of thermal shutdown during our testing.

If you haven’t figured it out already – we really like this amp. It sounds great, is nice and small and has all the features you’d ever need. We’re already having fantasies of four, or five or six of these in one car…
