Under seat active subwoofer as front woofer.

A friend want to have a front woofer but understandably he do not want to have issue with his other important half's leg space. So I asked him why not try use active under seat subwoofer instead?

He then installed a 10" sealed subwoofer and 8" under seat active subwoofer.

So here it is without EQ. It is just tape time alignment, and the crossover for the subwoofer is 20hz/12db to 50hz/24db, and the under seat woofer is 50hz/24db to 100hz/24db.

It sounds great without EQ and no issue whatsoever. And no issue with tactile feel when sitting on the passenger seat.

The simulated EQ looks promising too:

Size does matter, don't let her, ehemm, anyone tell you otherwise!

These little sealed drivers seem cool for this use. I would love to see some which test well and don’t have plastic enclosure resonance issues. I wonder if any have been tested.

The form factor and convenience factor is hard to argue with. My only personal concern would be the “fart box” effect or higher harmonic distortion levels giving away the position of the box and ruining the sound stage.

So far there is no problem about it giving way its location. But then again I am not driving it hard either. The under seat subwoofer is some local brand, Chinese made product. Not the best in tonal, but it works and sounds fine so far as the Audiofrog GS6 midbass is doing a nice job from 100hz to 200hz.

Those are nice. And if the midrange is capable enough, then that thing could completely replace the door midbass.

Or use them as stereo front woofer.

Hey if they sound good they sound good. Also moving midbass out of the doors is a great thing for a ton of reasons. Okay-to-good drivers in an optimal location is often better than stellar drivers in a bad location.

The Jbl fuse is a excellent kick bass alternative for this situation as said above. I used them for a while in my old car before going full bore and building sealed 9 in drivers underseat and they had nice performance from 50hz to 160hz for me with a good amount of impact. I highly recommend for people who don't want to cut up their vehicle or go full crazy install.

I have one Kenwood ps8w in the attic from my first go at sound improvement. Do you think I could introduce this in to my setup, running it with the same crossovers as existing subwoofer + time alignment for more upfront bass? Or if I used it at a higher range as more of a large woofer, do I need two a right and left or will one work? What frequency up do you generally need a l+r?
